Can someone please create this module for me?  I am only going to use it for personal use so I am pretty sure that would not be violating copyright.  I would make it myself if I knew how but I have no idea how to do so.

I received a rather terse reply from the USCCB denying permission to make an esword module. Maybe someone else can explain to them they could actually charge money for such a module (the programmers for eSword maybe..) Personally, I have no patience for commercial enterprise.

I guess they prefer us using the html version on the vatican's website (or piracy.)

I would interpret it as a divine sign and move on. :)

Here's the 2nd reply after I asked if they had any licensing options:

So, if eSword's producers were to ask, they would likely be able to make a deal to get the NABRE into eSword format. Assuming they want to.

Dear <rosc>,

The NABRE is available for a variety of electronic devices, including smartphones, iPad, and Kindle and Nook readers.  With respect to making the text available in eSword, any request to do so must come from eSword.

Thank you for your encouragement and kind regards.

Best wishes,

Dear Mr. O'Brien,

Are there any plans to make the NABRE available to eSword? [snip]

There's nothing divine about making licensing agreements with copyright holders. Either you're willing to negotiate permission or you're not. It's not magick.

Not even sending an enquiry would seem to indicate eSword's producers are not willing to try?

Or should I ask in a different fora? (I assumed the producers of eSword participate in this forum.)

The guy who makes e-Sword reads the forums. You can always leave direct feedback on: http://www.e-sword.net/feedback.html

You might also look at the Revised Standard Version (RSV) with Apocrypha, available for purchase through e-Sword.

It is not we who asking for copyright restrictions and if the NABRE was Pubic domain as some other Catholic Bibles (CPDV or both versions of the Douay-Rheims) then should this Bible already be uploaded here.

But, there are other copyrighted works that have been licensed by eSword. I don't see the difference between obtaining the copyright license for one work, and another - except that one may not be to someone's liking?  I thought licensing issues were about money, not personal likes/dislikes in motivation.

The developers for eSword could obtain the permission (since apparently they are the only ones with the authority to do so), and then assign the task of transcribing the module to someone else who wants to do the job.

I didn't think asking eSword's developers to even enquire into a copyright license was such a huge imposition.

See post #16.

Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
