Hi, First of all, I think this is an awesome site! And I look forward to becoming an active member in the community. But, I don't understand what a "module" is or what it does. Can someone please direct me? i have looked all over and have given myself a headache! I have downloaded the books that are available for e-sword,but I cannot understand this "module' thing.I am sure this gets asked constantly, I looked for an answer, but couldn't find anything on this. thak you for your help with a rookie!

Hello,

Welcome to the site!

A module is any e-Sword add-on, such as a commentary, dictionary, reference library, devotion, etc.

If you have e-Sword 10 installed and running, open the User's Guide, select Help - Contents or F1 - Download Page Here. Searching for the term module will bring up numerous explanations, all dealing with e-Sword resources aka modules :)

Even better is the explanation given in the Tooltip NT User's Guide - see page 7. This guide is for e-Sword users who want to create content aka modules for e-Sword. This is still a useful read regardless if you want to create modules or not, if for no other reason than to see what goes into the creation of a Bible, Commentary, Dictionary, or Devotional to use as a study aid in e-Sword.

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Thank you so much for your help so far! Josh, can I ask, do you live on this site?(Just joking!) It seems to me that you have put so much into it! Praise God!
So, if I download a module; I am actually downloading a specific title? Say, a commentary? Then, how do i open it? Will it open inside the e-sword? Like one of the reference books does?

Also, I have quickverse, can those books from there be incorporated into e-sword? i appreciate all of your help!
God bless!

Live on the site: haha, no but put a lot into it, yes. :)

Quickverse: Those are step books. You can view them with the Step Book viewer in e-Sword. Click Tools from the main menu and then Step Reader.

e-Sword Commentary: You download the commentary. If it's an exe file, that will install itself. If it's a zip file, open the zip file, and you have 2 choices: 1) copy the file to your program files\e-sword folder. 2) Use the e-Sword module installer, which is linked to on each file listing page.

One installed, re-start e-sword and the commentary will show in the commentaries window.

Thanks for the help Josh. i have downloaded the pulpit commentary, but i cannnot find it. What am i doing wrong? Should I be finding it in the commentary section of the e-sword? or is it because I do not have a module installed?
Also, I have found the quickverse books in the STEP. They are all coded so to speak for quickverse. Can I go about renaming them? Or will that damage the file?

thaks for your patience!
blessings brother!

I'm getting more confused the more I try to do this!!! ! I know it can't be that difficult! Okay, I tried to download Adam Clarke's message on entire sanctification which is a top.x file. I see the file downloaded, can I ask, what file exactly should the book be found in?

I believe the QV files are in separate directories, I opened the .dat file and found the title/author and renamed the directory that .dat file was in. This allows you to find the books much easier.

If you download a file from BibleSupport.com, and it is an .exe file, simply double-click it, go through the steps, and it will install itself.

If you download one of the following file formats,
  • bblx
  • cmtx
  • dctx
  • topx
  • refx
  • mapx
then you move them to your Program Files/e-Sword folder.

If you download a .ZIP file, then you will have to double-click on it, unzip it, and then move the file inside it to you aforementioned e-Sword folder.

Then restart e-Sword, and you should find your file ready to use.
