Oddly enough, in the past few days I started getting this same error. I removed all resources, except what e-Sword comes with, and the problem persists. I have not been able to resolve it yet.

Paraphrasing Rick Meyers, the solution is:

The problem is the user file settings in the registry. Click Help from the main e-Sword menu and choose Reset e-Sword Settings.

The issue may also be caused by the e-Sword user folder (and it contents) being set to read only or hidden. The e-Sword user folder is usually in my documents\e-sword. This is not the program files folder. If the reset above does not work, make sure the e-Sword user folder, and its contents, are not set to read only or hidden. You can right-click the e-Sword user folder, and see the Hidden and Read only checkbox options there.

QUESTION: How would one accidentally change the registry settings?

I suspect the issue has to do with the Editors window. The registry "remembers" what topic, journal, and study notes were open when e-Sword closed.

I think it's the file path to one of those notes files in the registry that is wrong, that produces the 0 error. How does it become wrong (maybe a bug)? That I'm not sure of. Just my speculation and suspicion.
