I tried downloading a file and received the following message:
[#10863] You may not download any more files until your other downloads are complete

I have received this message several times when in fact I was not downloading any files(anything) when I clicked on the download link.

This just started happening so I think something has changed on the site.

Tracey,

I just tested 3 different files and didn't experience any problems. Which file was it?

I tried downloading a file and received the following message:

i) How many files were you simultaneously downloading?

ii) What tools were you using to download them with?

I don't know about the software used here, but other CMS software I've used has had built-in limits. Usually low enough to prevent server strain, but high enough for most users to not run into.

Nah, nothing has changed on the site. We've had a maximum of 5 simultaneous downloads since the site started, or a week after. I get the occasional complaint from people with very unreliable connections. The download has stopped on the client side, but the server is still trying to send the file. The downloads will timeout eventually and the server will reset.

I think you mentioned a "download manager", whatever that is? Maybe try just downloading normal? I know one person was trying to use IE's "accelerator", which just "reads ahead" by clicking and downloading every link on the page. It was engaging in downloads he didn't even know about.

The downloads now appear working as normal (for whatever reason).
I had downloaded some files over the span of a week(or more) in several sessions so I knew that the message was not "normal" (in addition to being erroneous).
More that a decade ago, I was told that when you are having issues with a browser, close down the browser and clear the browser cache and retry. This is a semi-normal issue when software tries to enforce security/rules with browsers(browsers sometimes keep old cache data and/or only partially update the cache).
I had forgotten to shutdown and restart the browser. Since I had stopped using msIE I have not had any browser issues.
This may be why the downloads are "working" again. I must remember to close and re-open the browser when I am having these kinds of issues.
Thanks anyway, Tracey
FWIW I keep my simultaneous to 1 because using a Download Manager that downloads files one after the other. Setting the simultaneous downloads to greater than 1 does not does NOT appear to reduce the total download time.

The message was displayed in the web page instead of a displaying a web page with a download button, so that would lead me to conclude that the Download Manager had not been involved yet.
Hopefully this will be a very rare glitch.

I {still} [only] seem to have this issue when I use the Search Box at the top of the web page.

If I select a download category then choose the individual resources, then the message does NOT (ever seem to) appear in any web page.

My {personal} solution to for the time being is to not use the Search Box at the top of the page.

However, I would not want to see the search box removed(in can be very handy):
In the future(if possible) try creating a diagnostic web page that logs troubleshooting information.

If the Search Box is the only time Users have this issue: Add a resource diag/log link to each page that is displayed when using the Search Box.

Just FYI, Tracey

Hi, unfortunately I don't create logs because I didn't write the IPBoard software.

I can create a bug report, but I'll need the exact steps to reproduce the error AND your EXACT software configuration. If this isn't clear to me, it won't be clear to invision, and they will mark the bug as "can't reproduce".

Here's what I need:
1. Steps to reproduce. You search from what page? Any page? And after 1 search (or 2 or 3 or 5?), you immediately try to download and receive this error? I need the exact steps, pages, etc. And the steps need to be numbered. Then try it differently from your numbered steps to give them more detail, what excludes the bug, and what includes it.

2. Your operating system name, version, service pack. Browser type and version. A clear definition of "Download Manager", who makes it, what version, and why you use it/what does it do. Any other software that's related to "Download Manager", your browser, etc.

3. Your connection type (dsl, cable, satellite, dialup, etc.)

4. Try browsing with the download manager totally disabled, uninstalled (whatever) to see if this corrects the issue. That will be the first thing they ask me is: what happens when this "Download Manager" is out the picture.

5. What antivirus/firewall are you using?

Try bundling all that info so I can copy and paste it to Invision. I'll be happy to submit this to Invision once I have all the info.

Thanks,
Josh
