I have been using e-sword for years, since it was in its infancy, and it still looks the same after all this time but still very powerful and user friendly, but it seems like he has just let it go the way of the dodo because it's no longer being updated, bugs and questions are not being fixed or even answered like he used to. I do know of a situation he's apparently involved in. One that I don't want to air here as it might be considered rumors or gossip. Perhaps he is busy with that and cannot update his site these days. Maybe he's working on a total 11.0.0 overhaul that will stay relevant with other Bible program companies like Olive Tree or Logos. Not saying I don't like the design of e-Sword or its power and capabilities. Just spitballing here. Hopefully we will hear something soon. It's been over a yer since we've seen an update. I wrote him about a few problems with the NKJV Bible and other things but never received a reply or a fix.

There are many millions of e-Sword users now, so I know that Rick Meyers is a busy man. e-Sword is still free for Windows PCs, and Rick actually has to spend money to update it because of portions that he hires done (i.e. text handler). e-Sword for iPhone, iPad, and Mac are relatively new and offered for near give away prices. I doubt that Rick makes much more than what the software development tools cost, so it's a time-consuming ministry for Rick.

With millions of users, I wouldn't even try to answer all the mail if I was Rick. BibleSupport is run and supported by users and answers a lot of the support type questions. Josh Bond and the staff here have done a great job. I must add that thousands of new modules are now available because of BibleSupport and many volunteers who have worked countless hours free of charge.

In short, e-Sword for Windows PCs works great and is still free. Sadly, not very many people have contributed donations to Rick over the years to pay his expenses. I would also like to see a Windows update, but I think there needs to be a change in user attitudes about taking free software without even a thank you - much less a donation. This change of attitude might encourage Rick to update e-Sword for Windows and take care of his expenses to update.

Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

This is true. He hasn't budged in the vision that he was given and has kept it free. Kudos to the man and the ministry and for his faithfulness.

In regard to what Journey said in response to your post, I would also like to add that, not only Josh Bond and the staff doing a great job, but also all the old e-Sword hands who have involved themselves in giving help to those who have requested it, have and are also doing an incredibly great job.

The one thing that can actually be said about this online ministry, is that this is a massive community effort to where anyone can get involved in helping others. And the beaut part about it is that no one needs permission to get involved. Then you look at what others are doing in relation to e-Sword, such as the following:

  • The creation of incredible Bible study resources of Commentaries, Dictionaries, and etc
  • The Creation of tools to use in conjunction and relation to e-Sword:
    • Tooltip Tool NT, a powerful word processing and e-Sword creation  program
    • e-Sword Hotkey, a powerful program which does a heap when using e-Sword in conjunction with other word processors
    • Database tools specifically designed to be used in conjunction with e-Sword's resources
    • Plus a myriad of other tools, just too many to mention

of which all of these have been designed and developed by both professional and hobbyist software developers and programmers.

Factor in the cost of the work gone into all of these, and you are looking at the total amount of software that is used in relation to e-Sword and its resources  is worth quite a considerable amount of money, and yet all given freely at no cost to the user.

Having said all of that, it just doesn't stop there as to what people are doing in relation to e-Sword. You have committed brothers and sisters in Christ who give away e-Sword to people at their own cost. And so, with that, you have many new e-Sword users who benefit from the work that is being done by both Rick Meyers and this community as well.

I've said this before, and I don't mind re-hashing it again ... I do not know of any other Bible program which enjoys the support that e-Sword does to the extend that I've shared above. What you see happening here and what is totally unseen, is far greater than what anyone could imagine. And I believe that you can see God's hand in this work.

Blessings,

Yes, indeed. The folks here at this site are doing a remarkable job, and I truly appreciate it. Adding free modules to an already jam-packed e-Sword program is just an ongoing bonus. In no way was I trying to be negative about e-Sword. I love it and use it all the time. When I had my iPad I used Olive Tree more as I have purchased more content there ever since its PocketPC and Palm Pilot days (ah, I miss those devices, sometimes). I want to buy e-Sword for Apple, but I have modules from several accounts and when I wrote Rick a few years ago, he said that I could sign in with my account and it will bring all my modules I purchased to the app. But again, I bought the modules from several accounts so I wasn't sure if I would be able to sign in with multiple accounts to use those modules. That's the only thing that deterred me. Oh, and Journey, Rick does have his other site, estudysource, where folks can purchase modules, so I am sure he is getting money that way, and also through fan support with donations. All in all, I know the Lord is blessing that man for all that he has done and all he is continuing to do. I like how he keeps his prices low and competitive with the modules you purchase.

A few things in regards to Rick:

  1. Whenever I've e-mailed him, he has promptly returned my e-mails...and he has no clue who I am.
  2. I have contributed numerous times to e-Sword to help keep it going. Perhaps we should all send Rick a small Christmas gift.
  3. I purchased and use e-Sword X. It took me a while to be willing to keep using it over using the Windows version on my Mac, but I'll stick with it now.
  4. To me, the most significant improvements Rick can make to e-Sword are: (1) Allow for cross platform syncing...especially with e-Sword X available now. This is a no brainer. And perhaps he is working on it. I may have asked him about it at one time, but don't recall the answer. I should be able to highlight something in e-Sword on my iPad and have it show up on my desktop and vice-versa. (2) Allow for highlights and notes to be backed up. If there's an easy way to do this, let me know. (3) Be able to see all highlights in the commentaries.

In regards to eStudySource.com, according to the site, it is not owned by Rick, but by Phil and Beth Stoner. Perhaps Rick gets a slice of the pie (which he should since he is providing customers to them), but he is not the owner according to the site.

Merry Incarnation Celebration!

Hey Brother,

I have e-Sword on both my PC and my iPad. I have purchased modules from e-Study Source, Bible.org, and the Lockman Foundation and had no trouble getting eSword HD to install the resources. I did have to contact Bible.org to get my unlock key (I still had my receipt but not the code) and they came through for me. Each of the activation keys worked without issue when entering them in the built-in module installer.

Has anyone ever met Rick Meyers face to face. e-sword is great software.

There some serious accusations being made against the pastor of

Grace Chapel,  Franklin TN. I have never been able to find any photos of

Rick Meyers or his wife or his daughter. I will continue use esword.

I just pray that nothing is wrong. If it is God will bring it to surface.

Thanks

Greg
