I just downloaded Tooltip NT v 1.10 and a raw text file to start learning how to create e-Sword modules. But, I can't seem to get past step 1. I'm sure there is a straightforward explanation, but I'm not seeing it.

In Tooltip NT I tried to open a txt file (actually same message with 2 different text files) and got the following message:

Report the following:
VALUE ERROR
TxCtrl[162] 'Error Opening File' 'x' WMsg 'Unable to Open File:',Œtcnl, filename
^
----------------------------------------
TxCtrl[162] *
>[fmTxCtrl.mFile.mOpen;Click]
<[fmTxCtrl;Wait]
Start[48]

My PC is running on Windows 7.

Any help would be appreciated.

Curtis

I just opened 2 different .TXT files with NT what is the full name of your text file with ext and if you can upload it here choose more reply options

May God change our hearts to what the truth is

2Ti_2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Rom_9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

2Ti 2:24-25 And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

Without the text file, we're just taking shots in the dark. But my guess is it's not a normal text file. It has the txt extension but the contents are not what you would normally see in a text file. And that's confusing ToolTip NT. Click more reply options and attach the text file (you may have to zip it first). Then we can know for sure.

Josh,
I think you may be on to something. I am trying to open one of the raw files from the Bible Support site for John Owens. It is a text file, but the contents in the file look 'HTML-ish.' I saved it as an RTF file and then tried to open it and got the same message. I have attached the file, but for example the first few lines of the file look like this:

Full text of "The works of John Owen"

Thanks for the help. Curtis

Curtis
well there's good news and bad news

good news I got your file to open in T4 but you need to change the ext and delete part of the name

The works of John Owen.doc
or
The works of John Owen.html

even .TXT will work

Bad News depending on what you want the file for it does not retain I'm assuming Greek or Hebrew I have not seen the original the text file was made from

You can change the extension to html and open the file in your browser or directly in Tooltip NT (as David noted). Either way, this resource will need a great deal of work. There are OCR errors and a line break at the end of each line, page numbers, chapter names, etc. If you could possibly find the text elsewhere already formatted, it would save you 90% of the time necessary to make this into a good resource.

Example of issues throughout the text:

16 THE PREFACE.

Evang., lib. iv. cap. 5, &C. :) Olirw ds <puros faiov fi ia xal f] avrfi
ou no.} Kara, ro auro xarawyafyi [MV d spx, (purifyi ds 6pdaX/ioi)s,

fit yqv, a J^n dt <pvrd, K. r. A. (cap. VI.) E/ youv us iv vv
Xo you, xaQtis oupavofet aurbf lavrbv tfafjuparis faios <*vv dvdpuwots i-icl yq
ovd sva ruv till T%S ywi /ttivai v adidpopov, irdvrcav

xai d-^v^uv ddpoce, <ry rou <purbs irpoaSoXr

I've actually seen worse "pump and dump" text than this that people felt were good enough to make a module without fixing the errors.. And when they make there way to this site, I just delete them.

Thanks, Josh. Makes sense, and I will be on the lookout for a cleaner set of text.
