Don't like a current tab name (abbreviation) for a Bible, commentary, dictionary, devotional, etc? Something taking too much space?

This program lets you change the tab name without any technical knowledge! You can also change the tab name description visible when you hover the mouse over the tab abbreviation in e-Sword.

Technically challenged? No problem! Use this self installing application.

Compatibility
Works on all e-Sword PC 9-11 resources and Apple modules. Also works on official resources.

Steps:

• Click "Open module" and browse to the module (*.bblx, *.cmtx, *.dctx, *.mapx, *.harx, ...)
• The current description and tab names will be displayed.
• Change them to whatever you want and click "Update"
• Close the app.

WARNING:
Do not use the same tab names as the official e-Sword resources. For example, you cannot name a Bible resource "NIV". e-Sword will not display your Bible resource because that tab name is reserved for official e-Sword resources.

An excellent utility. Thank you. Is there any current technique to also rename the markup entries within the markup.ovlx file to match the newly renamed module? I was able to rename a bible module easily and flawlessly but now I don't have any of my extensive markup for the module. If not, would this be a possibility for a future release? Again, many thanks for the rename capability.

Again, I want to say thanks for this great tool! I've used it to re-align all my modules in the past 12 hours and it works like a champ. One of the problems I've encountered over the years is there is almost a total lack of uniform module naming protocol in the greater eSword community. Gathering modules from different web sites means I could have the same module, but tagged/named 3-4 different ways. With a lot of modules things can become confusing and perhaps slows down the boot-up time of eSword. Duplicates are a cinch to spot with this tool. Likewise, gathering Bibles according to language groups is simple as well.

Simplicity is one of the greatest things about this little tool. Simplicity and the time it takes to accomplish something. I love it, a lot easier than using the SQLite Browser and it get's the job done!

OK, I checked this issue.

Here are the steps to fix this:
1- Download this tool:

2- Run the program ( you might have to run it as administrator)

3- Click "Open" and browse to the markup.ovlx file.
I have it in Documents\e-Sword
And click yes, to save a copy of the original file.

4- In Tables, you will find:
Overlay: For bibles
OverlayC: For commentaries
OverlayD: For dictionaries

Click Overlay and click "View table"
You will see table with column "Bible" containing the old tab names.

5- To rename the tab names in this file:
In "Columns" Select "Bible"
In "Find" type the old tab name ( the one you saw in the table)
In "Replace" type the new tab name ( the current tab name you use in esword)
Note that these two are case-sensitive.
Click "Replace"

6- To make sure that it is changed properly, click "View table" again.
The names should be converted to the new ones.

7- Click close to close the file.

You can repeat the process for files containing highlighting.

In order for the program to rename tabs in the markup or the memory file, they have to be the same as those in the module.
To fix this in your case, you can rename the tab to its old name, and then to any new name. This should rename the two together.
