My pastor sent me this link: http://www.mirrorwor...MirrorWordBible and wanted to know what I thought of it. When I went there, I noticed there is an e-sword module created for this Bible. Is this new to anyone else? I didn't read much of it so I have no opinion.

JoGirl.....
I went to the sight mentioned above....I didn't read any of the Bible, I just thought I'd download it and evaluate it for a day or two.
What I did find however was there are portions of it where just Bk-Ch-Vs are listed but no words. I tried several bks. one was Luke 4
there were several others old and new teatament the same way. I just uninstalled it. I tried to find out if it was a work in progress....it
gave no such information that I could find. Thats what I found....not too helpful I guess.

The following is from the information section. Bold and Red lettering added for emphasis.

"THE MIRROR TRANSLATION The Mirror Translation is a paraphrased translation from the original text. While strictly following the literal meaning of the original text, sentences have been constructed so that the larger meaning is continually emphasized by means of an expanded text. Some clarifying notes are included in italics. This is a paraphrased study rather than a literal translation. While the detailed shades of meaning of every Greek word have been closely studied, this is done taking into account the consistent context of the entire chapter within the wider epistle, and bearing in mind the full context of Jesus and his finished work, which is what the message of the Bible is all about. © Copyright Francois du Toit 2011 - You are free to copy and to use, but not to alter the text, attribute it to a different source or sell any part thereof. When I find a new site the first thing i look for is a "What we believe" statement to get a feel for their theology. This one doesn't have one labeled as such, but it did have an "introduction" page.
http://www.mirrorwor...is/Introduction

This is what it says:

Jesus Christ is infinitely more than an historic Hero; He is both the mirror image of an invisible God, and at the same time the reflection and blueprint of every person's original design. His life, death and resurrection represent the human race, preserved and revealed in the most documented ancient record, and confirmed in our faith.

We believe that the church, ekklesia, is so much more than a building or an organisation. It is the voice of God that echoes in man and reveals man's true spiritual origin and identity (Greek, ek, a preposition denoting origin, and kaleo, urgent invitation, to give a name to, to receive the name of, to call or salute by name). Jesus introduces Simon, the son of Jonah to his true identity, a stone hewn out of the Rock; the son of man is the son of God. It is in this context that Jesus says he will build His ekklesia. Math.16:13, 16-18. Isa.51:1, Deut.32:18, 1Peter 2:5.

'And we all, with new understanding, see ourselves in Him as in a mirror; thus we are changed from an inferior mindset to the revealed opinion of our true Origin.'
2 Corinthians 3:18 - Mirror Translation

and an "About us" section that starts out with the same thing, then expands upon it.

Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, (Jeremiah 9:23-24a)

"Defenders of the faith are inclined to be bitter until they learn to walk in the light of the Lord. When you have learned to walk in the light of the Lord, bitterness and contention are impossible." --Oswald Chambers, in Biblical Psychology from The Quotable Oswald Chambers.

Having read through that little bit. It sounds like a narrow focus of Christ and religion in general. One would hope that there is something more that they are not telling us.
My personal view on religion in general in our society is that so many denominations have either thrown out the old testament all together or minimized it to something of equal value to a dime store novel. At least in summary, this description of beliefs seems to go even further in that minimalization of scripture and truth.

In general I try to teach 2 OT books for every NT book in my Sunday School class. (This quarter we are in Daniel, last Quarter we did James. Some of my students are trying to convince me to count James as an OT book).

There is great relevance in the OT, not merely as prophetic prologue to the NT, but also as proof that God's plan of Salvation was "in the works" from the beginning as well as the evidence and proof of God's faithfulness and provision to His people even when they were unfaithful to Him.

The same people who see no profit in studying the OT also hate to study history, because it doesn't seem "relevant". But without understanding history, we make the same old mistakes over and over.

If you study the ancient heresies you will see that they never went away, they just changes their names and the way they expressed themselves, but are as alive and infectious today as they were in history. The question of what constitutes heresy and why is a whole different can of worms. ;-)

I love this translation. It's a paraphrase like the message, but very poetic. The link is no longer there on the site. Does anyone have it still?
