I'm just inquiring about the Ray Stedman Commentary you had posted today (6-18-20011)....I informed a friend of mine that you had it here because I saw it(or at least I thought I saw it). Well my friend came in to download it and said he couldn't find it. So of course I msde a search for as well and it seems to be gone. Will it be back on the list .....SOON ???? :)

I think we need to get approval on that one, so I've taken it offline until we do. It seems many websites post the Stedman commentary, seemingly without issue. But I'd like us to get permission due to the unclear licensing. I have submitted the request and hope to hear something soon.

Josh....I noticed .....DrDaveT has the Stedman Commentary up on his site (http://www.doctordavet.com/index.html).Maybe this will help you determine if its safe to put on BibleSupport.com. I hope this will be helpful....

Stedman's representative said we could not post the Stedman commentary because other theology present on this website differs from Stedman's. I was a little surprised because isn't that who you want to reach--the people who may disagree with you? The people who already agree with you don't need reaching...do they?

While subject to a copyright, Stedman's website offers the commentary for free. The license presented on the Stedman website encourages people to use the material privately for non-profit use, or to post the commentary publicly, if they provide a copyright notice, author attribution, and a link to Stedman's website.

Therefore, unlike most copyrighted material, it's not illegal, improper, or unethical to download or exchange Stedman's material for non-profit usage. Their license allows for this activity. And, people have done just that. A google search reveals that Stedman's materials can be found in a wide variety of digital formats, which is no surprise given the liberal copyright policy on their website.

So while you may find this material elsewhere, in any format you desire, I would ask that we respect Stedman's wishes and not publicly post links to Stedman's material on BibleSupport.com. If you download or exchange Stedman's material outside of this website and in compliance with his publicly posted copyright policy, you are doing nothing wrong (morally, ethically, spiritually, or legally) unless Stedman changes his license. We just cannot post Stedman's material on this website. :)

It looks to me like the Ray Stedman modules at Dr. DaveT are links to esnips topx files. Maybe he could get permission to post the commentary file. I would think his materials would generally be in alignment with the theology of Ray Stedman.

On a positive note, Mark Copeland affirmed that we can post his materials.

He'd previously given permission to someone (probably David Cox) to put his content into e-Sword format. But his copyright license had changed to say that he no longer wanted his materials distributed by other websites. So I thought I'd ask since we're a new website, to make sure he still allowed distribution of the e-Sword modules.

If you were vague intentionally, please delete this. But a google search will specifically reveal Stedman's commentaries in both topx and cmtx formats.

Yeah, it's all over the Internet. If I wanted to download it, I'd get it from Doctor Dave's site, media fire, esnips, etc.
