adding bblx resources

How is a BBLX resource added to e-Sword?
Normally an add-on is added via an EXE application.
However, there are some downloads that are type BBLX
Thanks, Tracey
e-Sword File Installation Instructions for:
Bible, Commentary, Dictionary, Devotional, Graphics/Map , Harmony Files (.bblx, .cmtx, devx, .dctx, .harx, and .mapx)
Extract (unzip) the .bblx, .cmtx, .devx, .dctx, .harx, or .mapx file and save to "Program Files\e-Sword" directory.
C:\Program Files\e-Sword
You could find some helpful information at this link but this is older naterial. How to install e-Sword modules by David Cox
The steps below should direct you to the location of your existing bblx modules. Navigate to that directory and place your new bblx module in there. Most likely location will be [C:\Programs Files\e-Sword]. If your not sure how to navigate to the directory post another question as such. Enjoy your new module.
- To find your e-Sword Installation folder - Open e-Sword. Select "Options" on main top menu.
- Select "Resource..."
- Look at last line of this pop-up dialog box. It should have the following, "Location"
- This is where e-Sword is actually installed or looking for Bibles, Commentaries, Dictionaries, Devotions and Graphics modules files.

The BBLXs are listed last. Some versions of Windows use c:\program files (x86)\e-sword. If that folder exists, copy the bblx to there. Most resources are self installing. If one isn't and you can't manually install it, post it here and I'll make it self installing.

I only tried 1 as a test, but it did NOT appear in the e-Sword application (executable files always seem to appear in the e-Sword application).
Is there a script/batch file that can be created/used to add (a/any) non-executable resources to e-Sword?
Even if it is just an addition to the registry the tells e-Sword to load the added resource(like run batch file then start/restart e-Sword)?
I did change some of the file names because they downloaded with %20 for space, %28 for "(", and %29 for ")".
But the others downloaded just as they are with the space, the "(", and the ")" embedded in the downloaded file name.
The location was already set to the correct place (where all the other BBLX files are located from the original installation).
Thanks, Tracey

Did you move these .bblx files to C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword or c:\Program Files\e-Sword ? Try the x86 location first. If that doesn't exist, try the second location. The BBLXs are listed last.

Also, did you download those files here? I didn't know we had filenames beginning with "a 003", "a 004", etc. When I downloaded a couple of those just now, none had the crazy filenames. It's not a great idea to have parenthesis in the filenames of e-Sword modules (although some of ours do) because of the way e-Sword deals with parenthesis. But I've never had e-Sword refuse to load a module because of the parenthesis (on a Windows platform). I suspect you haven't placed these files in the e-sword folder or e-Sword isn't liking the filename.
All the "exectuable resources" do is copy the resource to your e-Sword folder for you. There's no other difference.
Download the Wycliff Bible from our site here: http://www.biblesupp...nt-1385bblxexe/
Install it. See if it doesn't work on your computer?

These bblx resources are the only resources with which I have discovered any issues.
All other resources that I have downloaded before and since were EXE and installed just fine.
Yes, from Bibles, Early English. Also, did you download those files here?
See: http://www.biblesupp...-early-english/
And the download file names are still appearing the same way(at least to me).
If they are downloading differently-and-correctly for you, can you please post the:
Download Link Web Page Names
Download Links
File Names as they appear at the destination location.
I can NOT imagine the issue being the Download Manager I am using because everything else downloads OK, but there can be mysterious bugs and glitches that do appear now and then due to software issues/conflicts.
That is why companies do beta testing and run trials before moving software and databases to production machines.
No one else that I know of uses parenthesis in the download file names, however I think I have downloaded files(from e-Sword or biblesupport) with embedded parenthesis and the embedded parenthesis were NOT converted to %28 and %29.
I have a number of other files that I have downloaded from biblesupport.com with spaces embedded in the file name and the spaces were NOT converted to %20
Yes, I know where e-Sword is installed.Did you move these .bblx files to C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword or c:\Program Files\e-Sword? Try the x86 location first. If that doesn't exist, try the second location.
Yes, I put them in the Program Files\e-Sword (directory/folder).
I have been using e-Sword since about mid/late version 8 without issue with any resource until just now (issues with bblx files only).
This statement is NOT wholly true (see below, after next quote). All the "exectuable resources" do is copy the resource to your e-Sword folder for you. There's no other difference.
Yes, all the executable resources that I have downloaded have installed and work/function correctly (including the Wycliff Bible EXE you posted).
The Wycliff Bible downloads as: Wycliffe%20New%20Testament%20%281385%29.bblx.exeDownload the Wycliff Bible from our site here: http://www.biblesupp...nt-1385bblxexe/
Install it. See if it doesn't work on your computer?
Yes The Wycliff Bible installs, and yes The Wycliff Bible is working correctly.
The copied/installed file name is "Wycliffe New Testament (1385).bblx"
Maybe the issue IS with the file name as downloaded
Can you please fix the BBLX download file names (and any others non-EXE resources that e-Sword will not recognize the file name as downloaded)?
Reagrading (WoY) Word of Yahweh: FILENAME="WoY .bblx" (notice the space in the file name after the "Y" before the dot: not illegal, but not a good file-name format either) See: http://www.biblesupp...word-of-yahweh/
Thanks, Tracey

I downloaded a few files from the Early English section that had the types of filenames your talking about. I moved the files to my e-sword folder. Ran e-sword. No problems.
Unless I'm missing something, you're familiar with Windows and renaming files? For now, just rename the file so the filename looks like you believe it should. And if it doesn't work then, it wasn't going to work anyway. Changing a filename does not alter the file's content. I will also point out that if 2 resources have the same filename, only one will appear. For example, if you have 2 bibles with the "Coverdale" abbreviation, only one will show in your e-Sword tabs. That could be an issue here as well for you.
I'll get the Early English bibles renamed. Having parenthesis is not a great idea for other reasons. Looks like another member uploaded those files with the odd filenames. Those files were originally downloaded from esnips.com. I recognize the filenames because I've seen them there before.

Can someone give a heads-up when that happens?I'll get the Early English bibles renamed.
Josh
Today is August 3rd and they still have their funky file names.
No hurry, I would just like to get a heads-up when it does happen.
Thanks, Tracey
I am using msWindows 2000 Pro with Service Pack 4 and msW2KSP4 does everything I need so farSounds to me like your running Windows XP?
Josh
I think people upgrade when their computer dies or something
Tracey
FWIW I would like to get a computer with such blazing speed that it makes my hair fly back like I have seen in some software advertisements, but I'm not sure that will happen in my lifetime.
Right now I am content with just a 2GHz Pentium(with a slower FSB) and a desktop fan
My Browser does NOT download the files, I use a File Download Manager.Whether spaces are replaced with %20 has to do with your browser and operating system.
It may also have something to do with what characters separate the spaces.
msW2K4SP4 handles long file names with spaces and parenthesis.
I downloaded the file "WoY .bblx" that contains a space(and a number of other files from www.biblesupport.com), can it be something to do with your file server and/or my File Download Manager(fdminst.exe v3)?
Please advise.
Thanks, Tracey
I use a File Download Utility just in case the download connection gets cut off and I can re-start where I left off if the file server has that capability.
The download log shows plenty of files downloaded with the space embedded in the file name and the %20 is not used in them.

I discovered a resource(conflict): evidently variations to the KJV 1611 bblx use the same tab name.
So it is NOT true that just copy-ING a bblx resource to the e-Sword directory will always get it to appear in one of the e-Sword resource tabs.
I mistakenly assumed that KIV-1611 (I renamed the file - see below) would appear as KIV-1611 and not KJV-1611
I realize Josh that you probably have a bazillion things to do plus projects and requests continually accumulating.
If I can add just one more to the list (number bazillion +(projects and requests)+ 1): identify resources within a category (like bblx) that use the same tab name.
Or did you wake up this morning with nothing to do?
For example: file "a 006 a) KIV_(1611).bblx" uses KJV-1611 as other KJV 1611 resources do.
Just FYI, Tracey

If you have more than one file that has the same tab name, e-Sword will only show one of them and disregard any and all others.
Tab name refers to the name e-Sword displays on the tab for any given module that utilizes the tabs in the e-Sword interface. Remember, not all e-Sword modules utilize the tabs.
e-Sword always sorts and displays modules by the raw file name. For the tab name to be sorted alphabetically, it must correlate with the raw file name.
Raw files are the modules that are used by e-Sword to display something. “raw file” will include only these 15 user creatable module types- .anlx, .bblx, .brpx, .cmtx, .dctx, .devx, .harx, .lstx. .mapx, .memx, .notx, .ovlx, .prlx, .tip, and .topx.
