Well I think I have come across an answer to this problem? I have tried it out on both systems Mint 11 and Ubuntu 11.10 and it is working for me.

I can't take credit for this answer as I came across it on the net. Sorry do not have the web address where I found it as it did not get printed out on my hard copy.

Do this B4 installing E-sword

Set oleaut32 to builtin in winecfg

Using Winetricks install

msls31
msxml3 **
vb6run
vcrun6
wsh57

Install E-sword

** You my get an error message in regard to this file. Winetricks should open a web page where you can download it from. Copy the file into the location listed in the error message. If you do not see the .cache folder press " Ctrl H " and this will show you the hidden files and folders. You will have to select the files again in Winetricks.

Hope this works for everyone

e-Sword is not available for Android.

To run e-Sword on Android, three things have to be done:
  • Write a virtual chip that incorporates the IA-32 instruction set for ARM;
  • Write software that emulates Windows on Android;
  • Write software that sanely enables 64 bit software to run on a 32 bit OS;
Microsoft claims that Windows 8 will run on ARM. What they have been more reticent about, is how difficult it will be for developers to write software for the various chips that Windows 8 allegedly will run on.

I'd recommend MySword for Android, since e-Sword does not run on that operating system. You can use TheWord and e-Sword resources in MySword for android devices.

I have had esword not being able to do searches for a long time and have been using a XP virtualbox instead. But you solve the problem!!!

I have
SUSE 11.4
wine-1.3.12
winetricks 20110123

First I uninistall e-Sword 9.x then Installed what you suggested and in the order you suggest with one exception.
I installed msxml6 instead

I can now do searches and get results PTL!!!

Thank you so much
