I would like to see the Bengali Bible version in E-Sword. Actually it would not be that difficult from two places that already seem to have it in Unicode format:

It may be possible to get these resources converted legally as http://www.wbtc.com/site/PageServer mentions once permissions have been obtained, others have done so with other languages.

There are over half a billion Bengali speaking people - shouldn't they have access to the Bible even electronically.

The issues with the Bengali Bible in e-Sword are:
* Copyright: I don't remember if permission was formally declined, or simply not granted;
* The characters/words were not correctly displayed;

I haven't looked at it with anything more recent than e-sword 9.7.2, so the display issues might have been solved.

For all Bibles that use an Indus Valley Writing System, get permission to distribute the e-Sword resource, prior to creating the resource. Normally, I'd suggest the opposite, but there are a number of technical issues with Indus Valley Writing Systems, that make the process much more time consuming. That extra time outlay is not cost effective, when the point of creating the resource is to distribute it to third parties.

Resources that utilize an Indus Valley Writing System require at least 400 hours to create. For English, the time frame is roughly 50 hours.

There isn't an issue with the 1867 version. Unfortunately, that is not the version that was distributed as an e-Sword resource.

I tried going to one of those addresses and preparing a sample module with one chapter of Genesis. It looks great, but when I looked at it more closely, I see some characters appear in the wrong order. I think this is what you were referring to. I am using version 9.9.1.

I can't read Bengali, but I guess they use composite characters, and the elements inside them are not displayed in the right order. Is this a limitation of RTF, or is it a display problem only with e-Sword? And is there a way to fix that? I remember a similar problem with Hebrew text, where vowel points and cantillation would be placed one character to the left, until I installed and selected the Ezra SIL font. Could it be the solution just installing some special font?

Hi please check this out http://www.omicronla...ngla-fonts.html try using this font and the software that goes with it. When I use different languages I use the fonts that goes with it. (Put the font in C:Windows - Fonts folder.)
open the PDF select all, copy and paste into Word

A big drawback is I don't know how to read Bengali, so whether the text is right or not, it looks the same to me.

But anyway I will try and tell you how it went.

Technically, RTF can correctly handle Complex Text Layout (CTL) markup. However, most software that utilizes RTF does not correctly handle CTL content.

And is there a way to fix that?

Yes.
For various reasons, I haven't taken the time to learn to create e-Sword resources that utilize Indus Valley Writing Systems correctly.

The basic approach is:

• RTF UTF-8 must be used, with the appropriate RTF presentation markup. Things that are not normally used when creating texts that use the Latin writing system;
• Use a good font. Something that is designed for the specific language and writing system that the resource is in. Something that contains all of the glyphs that potentially could be used;
• For various reasons, I think that a custom script written in PERL will produce the most useble resources. Python might work equally well. IOW, somebody needs to write half a dozen PERL scripts for Bengali, with one script for each resource type. Then rewrite them for each of the thirty odd official, semi-official, and unofficial official languages of the Indian sub-continent;

There is more to fixing it, than replacing the font. However, if the font that was used to create the resource is not used, the resource is pretty much garanteed to have problems with display, search, and one or two other things.
