Ouch! Feel the pain. There's got to be a less convoluted way to get around this.

OK. As a result of this response to Niobe's post, I thought than I would go straight to the horse's mouth at MySword, and see what answers I could get.

First was the query (the question):

One of the most regularly asked questions related to MySword on BibleSupport.com, is how to create third party resources for your program. And most of the answer one gets is similar to this one:

"The way I make mysword modules from e-sword. To make an e-sword module using Tool Tip Tool NT. Then convert e-Sword module to the Word module. Finally I take the Word module convert it to MySword."

Of which, which I think you would agree, is quite complicated, and that there has to be a better way. So, with that, what tools do you guys use for creating your resources.

Thank you for your time in helping us "power" users of MySword.

And below is their reply.

We actually used customized migration/conversion tools for different Bibles in HTML or MS Word formats that are very specific to the layout and formatting of those bibles. This is in case the publisher can't provide The Word or e-Sword, Verse per line, or USFM versions of the Bible.

We also created some special programs for converting EasyEnglish Commentary and some other books. But these programs are very specific to those formats.

However, for non-Bible modules like Commentaries, Dictionaries, and Books, we recommend doing it in The Word as it has editing capabilities except for Bibles. Then use MySword's The Word to MySword Migration tools. It is also possible to use the Open Office option in the settings file so that the colors and other formatting will be better preserved.

It is also possible to tinker directly with SQLite database, export then use Regex find and replace, then import again to improve some formatting stuff. This was done by some of our module creators.

As to what their "customized migration/conversion tools" are, as you can see they didn't say. I guess that its a, ummm, trade secret. Despite that, their recommendation in the use of The Word for the creation of other resources, i.e., Commentaries, Dictionaries, and books, and then exporting them to MySword, may prove helpful to some.

Hi Niobe,

Actually they cut out two steps:

  1. T4 to create as e-Sword resource
  2. Covert e-Sword resource to the The Word.

Their recommendation is:

...The Word for the creation of other resources, i.e., Commentaries, Dictionaries, and books, and then exporting them to MySword...

And that cuts out the need of the use of T4 to create it as an e-Sword resource and then to convert it to The Word.

Having said that; considering that all of the resources for e-Sword HT, LT, and X are HTML encoded, then conversion shouldn't be necessary, and merely a change in the file extension. (In theory, and may work in practice) there shouldn't be any loss of formatting and/or file reading errors, and therefore straightforward to use in MySword.

Convert Epub Books to MySword

I took some time to compile a document to help those attempting to convert Epub books to MySword. I was not able to convert pictures so if you have a help for that situation, let me know. The link is posted below.

Tools needed include:

  1. Calibre
  2. MSWord
  3. ToolTip
  4. TheWord Importer
  5. MySword Migration Tools

https://drive.google...iew?usp=sharing

There may be an easier method, but I am not aware of anything else that has worked and I have spent a considerable amount of time checking into this.

Thanks, I have previously used this method (#1 of this thread) to transfer the Afrikaans Bible for Mysword.  Many of us in South Africa used this for several years. However, when we upgraded phones recently it stopped working.

I have again tried to convert the Bible freshly, but it fails to work.  I have attached both the original (TheWord) and the converted file for the convenience of anyone that can help.

Thanks a lot!  We are locked-down in SA and one actually has time for better things now!

Best wishes

Gert Kruger

I got a solution form http://www.biblesupp...word#entry35361 (entry #2) that refers to:

There is a program called Simple Bible Reader that can convert e-Sword modules to Mysword modules, you can download the program from the following links

https://trumpet-call...e-bible-reader/

It works great!
