I'm not new to e-Sword, but I recently had to reinstall it.

 

Now when I press the compare button, it is simply blank.  I remember this in the past and I had to eliminate a version for it to work, but it's been years.  Does anyone have experience with this and know what versions will cause this?

Well, it did the plug-and-chug method.  

 

It was SPE -- Samaritan Pentateuch in English -- unchecked, and all the rest of them work.

I hope this helps someone else.

Remove your previous downloaded entry. You will find the required entry in e-Sword by using the following options: "Options" "Resource Settings" "Bibles" "Samaritan Pentateuch in English"

Select the entry with a tap of the left mouse button. Then use the Right click to access option "Delete Resource Permanently". To the pop-up message, use the left click to reply to the message, with the appropriate selection. Continue to read the screen messages. 

Then Download the file again, from the following link:

Move the downloaded module to the C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword folder.
Restart e-Sword.
The book is now listed in "Options" "Resource Settings" "Bibles" "Samaritan Pentateuch in English"
The book is listed in the Bible Maximized option as "SPE".
The order of the Tabs on the Bible window is based on the actual name of the filename.
Tap the pointer somewhere in the Bible window, to tell the PC that is where to pay attention. Then when you allow the pointer to hover over the entry "SPE" then the name is shown in pop-up "Samaritan Pentateuch in English-"

Select any Bible, then select a chapter from the first five books of the Bible.
Select the "Compare" option. The SPE entry will be included. If you want to include or exclude a Bible from the "Compare" option, use the option from "Bible" "Bible Compare Settings..." and then in the list of entries, you can select or de-select the specific Bible to be included on that option.
