Please advise Rick Meyers that 64-bit has taken over the world. https://e-sword.net/feedback.html

Hi Olaf,

Just to let you know that Rick is one of those that when it comes to Windows, he's a tad stuck in the mud. For the e-Sword Windows edition (from what I heard, read, and understand) Rick uses an old Windows 7 PC, and an old version of Visual Studio/Visual BASIC programming language. So, Windows 7, and all other software built  at that time I think was basically 16 and 32bit. Where the 64bit platform of Windows really started to come into prominence was when Windows 10 came out as a 64Bit OS.

With all that said, the weird thing is that when it comes to e-Sword LT, HT, X and e-Sword Android; all these have to be developed on a much more modern machine, using a much more later version of Windows, having a much more later version of a Programming IDE (Integrated Development Environment) which has the capability of creating iOS, Apple, and Android app(lication)s, i.e. the newer/later edition of Visual Studio which has the built in IDE to create apps for iOS, Apple, and Android platforms, using C# and/or C++ for these platforms. Which then, by the way, has (you're not going to believe this) has a much later and more up-to-date version of Visual BASIC. Crazy, I know!!! But there you are. Such is the e-Sword world that we live in.

OK, eventually Rick is going to have to develop e-Sword as a 64 bit application rather sooner than later. The reason is (going by what's coming out in the IT world) Microsoft will eventually no longer support the 32bit platform. Currently, although Windows 11 is a 64bit platform, one is still able to run 32bit software on it (up to a certain point). However, there's no guarantee that this will be the case for Window 12.

Well, that's it from me on this one.

Blessings,

Hi

That's right... And that's unfortunately the bitter truth... If Rick isn't already working on the 64-bit version, then with the release of Windows 12, it will soon be "THE END" for E-Sword.

And the fact that Visual Basic hasn't been developed for a long time shows that this will be the case.

Visual Basic is dead. Long live Python.

C, C++, or C# aren't even necessary for E-Sword.

Python runs on all platforms and is incredibly easy to use.

But I understand why Rick is still working on Windows 7.

It was an uncomplicated platform and a good version of Windows from Microsoft.

The XP version was even goot. After that, it was just spam.

Now Windows (starting with Windows 10) is evolving into spyware.

Regards

NEWS ABOUT E-SWORD.    From e-Sword Support <support@e-sword.net> Dated Thu 2024-11-14 16:58

Olaf,

SermonAudio changed their API; thus, that feature no longer works in e-Sword.

You can now use the SermonAudio app:

            https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sermonaudio-2-0/id1577357355

There is also the SermonAudio web site:

            https://www.sermonaudio.com

In His service,

Rick Meyers

e-Sword for Android (https://www.e-sword.net/android/)

e-Sword X for the Mac (https://www.e-sword.net/mac/)

e-Sword HD for the iPad (https://www.e-sword.net/ipad/)

e-Sword LT for the iPhone (https://www.e-sword.net/iphone/)

the Sword of the LORD with an electronic edge

Perhaps there may be a method of linking e-Sword to other audio players that have been loaded to the user's PC. Alternatively access the Sermon audio and other sources, from their own website apps, and view their audio and video productions separate from e-Sword. You can always continue to use e-Sword to check up all Bible References that are quoted, and then make your own annotated notes.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to "continue to use e-Sword to check up all Bible references" - because e-Sword starting in version 13 won't run after installation if the legacy Windows Media Player is not installed and activated. And on modern Windows devices running on ARM processors this Media Player cannot be installed. That makes all e-Sword versions starting with 13 dependent on an ancient program that Microsoft has abandoned for a modern Media app.

Here's the solution to this problem from the FAQ page on the e-Sword website: If you are unable to get the Windows Media Player installed, then you can download e‑Sword 12.2 here: So think of this: If you can't install the legacy WMP which was last updated in 2009 - 17 years ago! - then your only alternative is to go back to a 6 year old version of e-Sword! This is not what I call innovation, and it does not make the future of e-Sword look promising from my perspective.
