Under "Options/Font Settings" I have the same font set for "Default Font" and "Editor Font". In the Editor pane this font is always used. But in the Bible pane some Bibles use it, but others don't. Those Bibles not using the set default font use Arial.

I've used e-Sword for many years and never had this problem before. I presently use e-Sword on 2 PCs: an Intel machine and a machine running Windows on ARM. On the Intel machine all Bibles use the right font, but on the machine running Windows on ARM some Bibles don't use the set default font.

Anyone else ever have this issue? Any idea how I can force e-Sword to use the default font on all Bibles?

It might be due to certain modules have set fonts that cannot be overridden

Is there any way to "strip" that function from e-Sword modules so they accept the e-Sword default font?

Yes, it works… But only if you have the original .txt or .rtf , or .dctx file, of the aforementioned Bibles that you can load and modify in ToolTip Tool.

Another possibility is to create the desired Bible yourself, according to your own wishes.

I am not aware of any other possibility.

On the Intel Windows PC I'm using e-Sword version 13, on the Windows on ARM PC I'm using version 12.2 because it's not possible to install the legacy Media Player e-Sword now requires. Version 13 on the Intel machine shows the fonts from the default font settings, version 12.2 on the ARM machine shows Bible, commentary and dictionary modules in Arial. Could that be the cause? Does version 12.2 not support overriding font settings in the module?

If the font is missing on your computer, download the font you require, so that it will then be available to display in that font on all your computers.

Use e-Sword "Options", "Font Settings".

I have set e-Sword to the True Type Aptos font, because that is now the default font that is used in Microsoft 365, and I often want to copy from e-Sword into Word documents, where I have the Aptos font as the Default Font, and also as the Editor Font.

Regarding font settings, I received an email from Rick Meyers dated 2025-02-17, "E-Sword uses whatever the user chooses."

  • Segoe UI Variable is the standard for Windows 11 interface elements.
  • Aptos is the modern sans-serif font now used as the default in Microsoft 365.
  • SF Pro is used for Apple's M1/M2/M3 ARM chips.

  • The default font used on ARM-based computers depends on the operating system, rather than the ARM architecture itself, as ARM chips are used across different platforms.

  • Windows on ARM (Windows 11): The default system font is Segoe UI Variable.
  • Microsoft Office (ARM/Windows): The default font for applications like Word, Excel, and Outlook is Aptos, which replaced Calibri in 2023.
  • macOS (Apple Silicon/ARM): The system font is San Francisco (SF Pro).
  • Android (ARM): The default system font is Roboto.
  • Linux (ARM): While it varies by distributionUbuntu often uses Ubuntu font, and others may use Noto Sans or Cantarell.

In e-Sword, use whichever font you want to. Load the font your prefer onto your computer, and set the e-Sword to use the same fonts. e-Sword is user-friendly, so the user is able to use whatever they prefer.

I wish it were that simple . . .

The font I desire to use is fully installed and available in all text programs. It is set as the default font in e-Sword Font Settings.

In some modules this font is used, in other modules it isn't. Example: the niv.bblx module uses the default font I set. The premium module nasb.bblx I purchased only shows in Arial, not the default font settings.

At least in this case e-Sword does not use whatever the user chooses.

What could cause version 12.2 to show some modules in the default font, and others only in Arial - on the same PC, with the font fully installed? Version 13 shows the exact same modules correctly in the default font in settings.

When modules are created a specific font can be set in the header variables of the module this can override the user's ability to select their own font

This is what I suspected. But: e-Sword version 13 overrides that and shows all modules in the default font selected in Settings. Version 12.2 does not and reverts to Arial. Is this a known limitation in version 12.2?
