I am trying to find tools or instructions on how  a bbl can be created to be compatible with older versions of esword.

I have a friend who is unable to upgrade to newer versions. I appreciate all that will say how easy it is to upgrade, risk free, etc etc. But I really need to know how to get to a bbl if anyone can help.

Kind regards,

MJ

Not sure how going back words from the bblx or bbli format could be or with what tool or tools could be used. The bbl module format was discontinued with the launch of e-Sword version 9.

There are a number of older bbl modules available for download here on Bible Support.

What is the reason your friend cannot upgraded to say version 9 or 10 of e-Sword instead of the more recent versions?

If you have a way you can create a .bblx, then I think you should be able to convert to .bbl using Simple Bible Reader, if I am not mistaken. Unless Simple Bible Reader has dropped support for .bbl files. I haven't used it for a few years.

You may be able to figure out how to use a current version of Microsoft Access.  It can read in .BBL files, which I believe are in Microsoft Access 2000 format.  You can see the database structure of an existing .BBL file and reuse the same structure for a .BBL file that you are creating.  When done with edits, save as a Microsoft Access 2000 .MDB file.  Rename the .MDB file with a .BBL extension.

If you are working with an existing .BBL file that is in a database format that is too old for Microsoft Access, you could also try the program "MDB Viewer Plus" from:

Thank you so much for your feedback on this. I was able to get a copy of the Simple Bible Reader.

Running under windows 10 I had great difficulty getting it to run. Even though this version of windows tries to emulate prior versions to some extent.

i've passed on the information about this tool to the friend that needs it.

I'm expecting to upgrade my system in the next few days and it may be that that install of windows will properly emulate the operating environment allowing me to utilize the tool for myself.

Kind regards and may God keep you in these last days of Satans world.

Thank you very much for your input on these. This sounds like a very interesting approach.

Given the time I may be able to implement what you have suggested.

May God bless,

MJ
