I'm working on a bible for esword and the source of the bible contains bits of html for bold characters and superscript character throughout.

So this may be a redundant question on what is the way to convert something like this-> <b>Some bold text</b> to rtf in tooltip to create a bblx?

I also have some superscript tags as well.

Any help greatly appreciated!

Kind regards,

Michael

The RTF tag for \b bold\b0  is this.

So you need to change the extension to rtf.txt and open the file.

"Replace all" <b> to \b (do not forget the space after the b ).

"Replace all" </b> to \b0 (do not forget the space after the b0 ).

The tag for \up6 superscript\up0  is this.

I had an idea that might be the solution but I didn't want to take the long route if there was a short and easy route already in the software.

Appreciate your quick and very helpful reply!

I'm off to do some editing.

Have a great day and God bless!

Kind regards,

Michael

Just a word of advice, all versions of e-Sword including Windows, Android, and Apple/Mac can run html bible modules. These modules have the file extension "bbli" instead of "bblx". This is something to think about if you want all e-Sword users to be able to use your bible module

If you have this data in a file, just give it a html extension and open it with Tooltiptool as a .html file and it will do all the converting for you.

That is good advice! My intention originally was to update the bible that I had in bblx for a friend that has an older version of esword so I was focused on that. I have created a bbli for myself.

My friend is telling me now he cannot use a bblx so apparently he has a very old copy of esword. he did say he was using windows 7 if I recall so maybe he needs a bbl format, which I don't know how to create for him.

Minimal system requirements:

  • Windows XP Pro 2003, Vista, or Windows 7 / 8 / 10
  • Intel 8086 based PC (or equivalent)
  • 800 x 600 resolution or greater

The developer uses a Windows 7 PC to develop e-Sword on, so that is not an issue.

Would you know which was the last version of esword to use .bbl as opposed bblx and beyond?

I guess it is not terribly important. But if my friend is still using .bbl I don't know how he would be able to upgrade without losing some things that are important to him.

I remember those days very well. O the amount of times the default *.top files got corrupted and caused e-Sword to crash. Really such wonderful and glorious days we had (not).

Who remembers the name of the database system that these old files were based on? And who remembers what version of e-Sword it was that when we switched to the SQLite (said as Seek-you-light) db system?

Blessings,
