JPG graciously converted a TheWord Bible module into *.bbli, which I was able to successfully use in E-Sword 11.22 using wine on Linux Debian Stretch.

While reading a post on a different thread, I came across:

"3) Did you change the version number with DB Browser for Sqlite? It is version 2 for the e-Sword 10 and e-Sword 11 versions"

 

The converted module that I use is version 4, and works  perfectly.

Question: What is the purpose of version numbers; how many version numbers are there?

The version numbers determine which version of e-Sword the module is made for either the Windows version or The Apple/Mac version when a module is created using e-Sword Tooltip NT. 

When using e-Sword Tooltip NT to create modules Windows modules are known as version 3 modules and Apple/Mac modules are version 4 modules.

Prior to the release of e-Sword 11 for Windows, modules with extensions that ended in the letter "i" such as bbli for bible, cmti for commentary were for the Apple/Mac versions of e-Sword only. Modules with an extension that ended the letter "x" were such as bblx for bible and cmtx for commentary were for use with the Windows version of e-Sword only. 

With the release of e-Sword 11 for Windows in 2017 it became possible to use both Windows and Apple/Mac modules in one e-Sword for the first time. 

As for version 2 that was for the module format used before the release of e-Sword 9 for Windows
