I ask because it is easier for me to run and I want to give people the program and show them how to use it, I could do this right away but in TheWord it will take me longer to learn and I want to give a program away soon!

There is no portable edition of e-Sword 9 or later.

You can put the installer exe file  in a thumb drive but you need to copy and install it on the other computer.

Thanks for letting me know!  I will just need to work harder on relearning how to do TheWord! Since you were so quick to help me do you under stand where it talks about how to access your books in the Word some how I lost my" marks up in the corner on some of my book view!  Before I an take and show people how to use TheWordd I have to know how I lost my"marks and know how to get them back!

I fins it funny years ago I knew how the program worked and aught pastors and bible school student how to use it, but I was ran over by a drunk driver and then  had 3 strokes and lots of brain damage and now it is hard for me to use either E-Sword or TheWord!

One of the best thing about being able to hardly walk and not thinking right alot the time is people allow me to talk to them about Jesus!  I know they feel sorry for me but I am thinking at least they get to hear about the Lord and what He came and did for those that  will believe!

God bless and good night!  Thank God for spell check!

If you could take a screen shot of the "marks up", it would help us.

Also if this is to do with theWord software, you would be better to use theWord forum. I will be there to help you.

Basically all what "portable" software is, is just the program's executable, with all its supporting files such as DLLs, OCXs files and etc place on a pen drive. It simply means that its non installed on the host machine.

I've created software which have no installers for them and ran them on other peoples computers without a problem. So with that, in theory one can copy the e-sword.exe file with all the support files on to a USB stick, and simply click on the executable. About the only way you will know if whether or not it works is simply try it out.

By the way, I think that is all what the "portable" The Word is: the Application's executable, dlls and etc copied on a pen drive, and that's it.

Like I said:

About the only way you will know if whether or not it works is simply try it out

So, you'll never know if you don't give it a go. Promise you this as well, you won't blow your computer up

Let us know how if it works. It would be interesting to find out.

Blessings,

P.S. O yeah, I nearly forgot. Those of you who have downloaded and use the e-Sword Menu Installer program as part of your compilation when giving away e-Sword, are actually running a "portable" program which has not been installed on your machine.

Jon, are you kidding take a screen shot!!!  LOL  I have no idea how to do that, I am 64 years old and have brain damage.  The way I type is I use spell check like every few words!  But thanks alot for trying to help me and by the way the little marks are back!  They are the ones in the upper right section of every screen to give you access to your modules!  They are more like two small arrows > one above the other!

I will go to the other site but not right now since the arrows are back!  I was sad they ran away from home but happy they have returned!  Kind of reminds me of the prodigal son story!

Thanks Jon!

Is that all?! You're just a boy. I'm 72 and creeping toward 73 (and still a boy to those who are much older then me). I learnt to do programming in my mid fifties (whilst you were in your 40s). The thing I found out it's never too late to learn new things. So what you got brain damage! Don't let that hold you back from making the most of what you have and to enjoy it to the max, and also learning to do new things.

If you were to stimulate your mind and take on tasks that are a challenge to you, its amazing just how quickly your brain will adapt and heal.

Perhaps the best example I can give is US Marine veteran and Medal of Honor recipient, Cpl Kyle Carpenter. Should see his story of how he overcame obstacles from head and body wounds received from falling on a grenade to protect a friend.

I'll finish it hear as I am just way off topic.

Trust that this will encourage you.

Blessings,

Well Jon what you have said about a person,s brain coming back is true or I would not be able to be online talking to you!  That is why I am working on being able to use bible software again!  And getting to the place I can teach others how to use it well again!

However there are times when nothing is clicking up there and I need to step back for a while and just relax and rest!  Talk to Jesus and ask Him to show me what I need to do next!  Naturally this goes against the grain of a very competitive person that has trained and competed with athletes at the word class level but I am learning God works with me at what ever level I am at and I can and do rejoice in His loving kindness!

I did not really mean my age is a limit on my abilities as I do not consider that the problem, the problem is I can only walk or sit or even lay with much pain even after being ran over 20 years ago.  And on top of that I have had to relearn how to do all of those things which as taken time but I am thankful I can do them now!

I like you Jon and it make so difference your age!  You have been very helpful and encouraging to me!  I believe that is Christ working in you and I thank Him for that!

Well I got to go I am working on watching more bible study videos, I have to watch the same thing over and over and practice doing them time after time or I forget in a very short time!  My mind just needed a break so I thought I would check things out on the forms!  It is hard to believe on many times my mind changes the order of the letters I think I am typing and I end up wonder where did that come from, I didn't do that!  Oh no I did!

God bless you and I hope to meet you someday!

Portable e-Sword 7.8.5 is the most recent version of Portable e-Sword I'm aware of.

For those who don't mind losing access to AudioSermon, and audio files, the RAM intensive work around for Portable e-Sword is to install Linux on a thumb drive, then install WINE, and finally install e-Sword.  You need access to a windows system, to get the batch file for windows, and shell script for Linux to transparently work together.

There are a couple of other annoyances in using e-Sword on a Linux system.
