While e-Sword does include an excellent parallel bible feature the allows up to 8 bibles to be read in the parallel tab, I wondered if parallel bibles could be handled a different way. 

Understand that I have nothing against e-Sword's Parallel feature and use it myself it's just that I like to find other ways and thereby test both e-Sword and Tooltip's capabilities. All of the bible modules for e-Sword contain a single bible translation and I started thinking if a parallel bible module could be created and how it would display in the e-Sword bible window. 

As it turned out the module was actually simple to create and Tooltip processed my parallel bible test module with ease. For my test module I used the ASV and KJV translations and the same six verses from each. In the case the verses are Genesis 1:1-6. After setting the bible module parameters in Tooltip I copied and pasted Genesis 1:1-6 from the ASV module in e-Sword into my new module in Tooltip then I copied the same verses from the KJV translation and pasted them directly under the ASV modules. Next I added the letters ASV in parentheses at the end of each of the six verses from the ASV

The verses look like this:
 

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (ASV)

Gen 1:2 And the earth was waste and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep: and the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. (ASV)

Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. (ASV)

Gen 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. (ASV)

Gen 1:5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day. (ASV)

Gen 1:6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.(ASV)

The verses from the KJV translation look like this:
 

Gen 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.(KJV)

Gen 1:2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. (KJV)

Gen 1:3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. (KJV)

Gen 1:4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. (KJV)

The verses have spacing between them in the e-Sword bible window based on some paragraph spacing changes I made in Tooltip

While Tooltip does have a feature that combines modules, creating the module manually allows for more creativity in terms of the final layout and display in the e-Sword bible window. There is also no limit to how many bibles can be combined, although the more bibles used will result in a large final module file

Although I created my test module by copying and pasting the verses from e-Sword to create a parallel module using complete bible texts, it is best if you have the modules in rft format so that they can be opened easy in Tooltip, as this will make copying much easier

Hi Higgs,

In what you wish to accomplish, from a visual perspective (going by your example) you are limited to a vertical presentation, and as such, it really is no different from Compare Verses except as a tooltip. So if that is all what it does, then it begs the question of what is the point of it.

 

Moreover, the problem with tooltips is the limitation of what can be displayed due to the size of screen. When using the Compare Verses or the Parallel Bible tab, at least one is able to scroll down to view the verses, but as a tooltip that just can't happen. Therefore, when it comes to the type of device one is using, if not a Desktop PC with a massively large monitor, e.g., a 52", but a tablet or laptop, then one is pretty much screwed as to what one can see.

 

Your idea has merit only when it comes down to having a very large monitor, and with anything less than that, it pretty much sucks.

 

This comes from a bloke whose been around IT for a tad over 40 years.

OK, but you don't address the issue of the limitations of what can appear in a tooltip. In your limited test it may work as a tooltip, but if you make the test to cover a whole chapter e.g., Gen 1:1-31 just with your limited amount of translations, it would still not be able to fully display whole chapter as a tooltip. You cannot scroll in a tooltip.

 

So, just having two translations appear in a tooltip of Gen 1:1-31 equals a total of 64 verses to be displayed, in which it would not even fit in a 31" or 32" monitor. It might fit a 52" or a 55" inch Monitor/TV, or my 48" TV come monitor. But an average sized PC Monitor, forget it. But once you get to even 4 or perhaps 5 translation to fit in a tooltip, it not even would be able to be fully displayed in a 52" or 58" screen. The maths just doesn't support what you want to achieve. I'm not even going to bother of going down the road of the extremely limited real estate of tablets and/or laptops

 

The only way it will actually work is if the tooltip properties are made to be Scrollable. Outside of that, forget it! Just won't work.

I think Tj Higgins means the use of Tooltip Tool NT software for creating parallel Bibles.

Not that the parallel Bibles are displayed in a tooltip popup...
