This may sound crazy but Ive been making modules using the word. Then I use Josh's instructions to convert to e-Sword format. I like the visual editor. I can add content and then select what verses, books, chapters it applies to. When breaking up content or deciding how to divide content into chapters or verses or books... the visual editor makes it easier to keep track of what is where. No scrolling up or down in a large text document, I just navigate to where I want to go like I would when viewing a module.

thanks

How do you handle the number list? I need to number the verses in my Word doc. need help:

I am trying to create Bible file. My original document is in MS Word 2013 format.

Sample:

Genesis

The whole bible is in one Word document. The verse and chapter numbers has been inserted manually (not number lists). The number in the first verse reflect the Chapter number and not verse number. I would like to keep that style and start verse numbering from the second verse if possible. For the purposes of the module I need it to read:

Genesis

[JeshaJaH 45:18; Prediker 3:11]

Gen 1:3 En Elohim het gesê: Laat daar Lig wees! En daar was Lig.

However I realized that the module keeps giving errors if the reference of the verse is not proper. Thus I suspect by just keeping the chapter number in the first verse will result in errors? Can someone advise on a fast and proper way to do the verse numbering in Word which can be copy pasted into the module?

Hi Gert,

The Chapter and verse numbers are handled automatically in e-Sword, and therefore you won't get the format you have created in MS Word. You have to remember that e-Sword only reads database files. All of e-Sword's resources are database files.

The Book, the chapter number, and the verse numbers are individual fields in the Bible table of the database, and e-Sword, when it reads the data within these fields, outputs them as Gen 1:1, Gen 1:2 and etc. Therefore with respect to your example, for e-Sword to be able to read the data as you have shown in your second example, can only happen if it is programmatically changed. In other words, the syntax needs to be changed.

For more information on how e-Sword reads Database files, click here.

I'm sorry that I can't help you any further on this.

Blessings,

hi

here is a bible sample:

#define description=Gert van Zyl

#define abbreviation=Gert

#define comments=Gert van Zyl sample bible

#define version=1

#define strong=0

#define right2left=0

#define ot=1

#define nt=1

#define font=DEFAULT

#define apocrypha=0

here is a commentary sample

#define description=Gert van Zyl

#define abbreviation=Gert

#define comments=Gert van Zyl sample commentary

#define version=3

÷Gen_1:1

[Isa_66:1; 2Ezra 6:38; Psa_85:11]

÷Gen_1:2

[Isa_45:18; Prediker 3:11]

you will need a commentary to your bible (footnotes).  The bible does not support scripture pop ups.

thanks

Hi Niobi,

As to what you show, actually does not address Gert's problem of formatting as all what you have done is shown e-Swords default output (display).

This is what Gert would like to see displayed (outputted) in e-Sword:

[JeshaJaH 45:18; Prediker 3:11]

Gen 1:3 En Elohim het gesê: Laat daar Lig wees! En daar was Lig.

 And this is not what e-Sword will not display (output) the first verse of each chapter. One can have that 1 placed in the Scripture field, but the output/display would look like this:

[JeshaJaH 66:1; 2 Ezra 6:38; Psalm 85:11]

and this is not what he is wanting to display in e-Sword.

e-Sword will only display the data in the way it has been programmed to output the data, and the only way this can be changed is by changing the code for the way to output the data. And in some respects this can be a programmer's worse nightmare.

So, with that, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings to you one this one.

Blessings,

P.S. Just a quick note on e-Sword not displaying Bible references in the Bible Window within tooltips. The reason is because the code to enable this has not been  put in for this to happen, and therefore can easily be changed if the code (syntax) is put in. And the only way that can happen is if the programmer (Rick Meyers) puts it in.

Thank you Gentlemen! I appreciate all your input. Seems like I have to settle for the default display. You did help me a lot though.
