HI all,

Is there a software that allows me to speak and It types it out for me. This would be great to convert sermons (CD) to Text so I can edit.

Once again is there is tool or software that will type for me as I speak in a microphone?

Thank you for your input

This is built into windows 7 and I think Vista, do not know about xp.

Dragon is a software package, you can find it cheaper than this link if you look.

There are also others if you google for speech recognition.

This is called Speech to Text. It's a lot like OCR. It can highly accurate but a lot of variables impact it's accuracy, such as your accent, your style of speaking, background noise, and how ordinary the words are.

Nuance, the company that makes Omnipage, makes a product called Dragon Dictate. There's others as well.

Edit: Sorry, didn't notice your reply Excentric. We said basically the same thing, lol.

Each version of Dragon is released in several different editions:
  • The home edition;
  • The consumer edition;
  • The professional edition;
  • The medical edition;
  • The legal edition;
There were/are a couple of other versions. Back in 2005, The Medical Edition provided the least error prone results. In looking at the current offerings, they no longer offer The Medical Edition in a single user package.

Dragon Professional almost provides acceptable results. The cheaper editions are too error prone.

There are a couple of FLOSS alternatives, but their speech to text algorithms aren't yet good enough for production use. (This entire field is mired in non-patents that are nothing more than mathematical formulas.)

I've tried an older Dragon and another. I tend towards mumbling so found that it didn't do all that well. When I over pronounced my words it did a pretty good job.

Know a couple of things.

1. You have to put in all punctuation, returns etc.

2. Some of them can learn from you. When it makes a mistake you can tell it what you meant and it will learn that for future reference. I would highly recommend that feature.

I found it to slow to replace my good typing skills - I'm always in a hurry :-)

I think if I had worked on my speech a little it would have been fantastic.

Hi
I have version 10 of Dragon, and I just tried it out in Word. Very nice. Now I can speak what is on my mind and it will type for me.

I am going to enjoy this and it works with all my programs (Computer) :-)

thanks
