Yesterday, we rolled out a new Chat system. If you're logged in, you will see a chat bar at the bottom of your screen. You might press Ctrl-F5 for a hard refresh if you happened to visit while I was installing it (your browser may be caching an older version of the chat bar).

I have received great feedback and suggestions from people through chat who otherwise may not have felt comfortable emailing or too bashful to post. :) I noticed in the system statistics' "Total Messages Sent in Last 24 Hours", that a number of you have been using it (178 343 messages sent). Let me know of any issues or concerns.

I've also acted on a few special requests. Someone asked for a "Tips for Module Creation" subforum beneath the e-Sword Tools and Utilities forum. This forum is for tips, tools, and helpful hints loosely related to e-Sword module creation. I think this subforum will eventually contain very useful material. I've been surprised at the small "oddball" apps and utilities people loosely use in conjunction with e-Sword and/or e-Sword module creation.

Finally, a "geeky" suggestion was the addition of a user editable progress bar. This way, module creators (or anyone with a project) can update the status of their project to include a percent complete. An example of the progress bar is shown here. This feature is available from the Special BBcode icon in the text editor. No one is under any obligation to use this feature, or use the Modules In Progress forum at all. It's just a "nice to have" feature.

HI,

This is an excellent feature to this awesome website. I am enjoying the private chat (Who's on line). Very quick and easy to ask questions and answers.

thanks Josh for this.

A few ideas. Consider a "report conversation" option so that someone can report an inappropriate chat. Not sure if thats easy to do.

Now that you have a bar at the bottom of the screen, might as well use the real estate? The middle section of the bar could be used? You could add a link to your e-Sword manual. Maybe a link to "How to install e-Sword modules". Maybe a link to "What is esword" or "How do i view modules on this site". Or maybe links to the most popular areas of the site? Just throwing out some ideas...

I have the first request done--the addition of a "Report Conversation" button. That's now in the chat window visible as you are chat with another member. You can hover over the icons to see a description of what each icon does. The one on the far right lets you report a conversation.

The unused real estate on the chat bar: why didn't I think of that? Let me think about what to add to that bar--I like your ideas.

What about a link to Ricks site perhaps the eSword download page

May God change our hearts to what the truth is

2Ti_2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Rom_9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

2Ti 2:24-25  And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

You mean an e-Sword resource site should link to e-Sword.net? Good idea. :) I like that too. I know we attract a lot of people who don't use e-Sword. I can see their entry into the site from Google/Yahoo/Bing from specific book name keywords (William Evans Book of Books is the most popular, by the way). Then they read the "What is e-Sword" at the top of the Downloads area. So definitely, a link to e-sword.net on the bottom chat bar would be a great use of space.

Here is the new chat bar with the links suggested. You will probably have to press Ctrl+F5 to see the new chat bar, as your browser is caching the older version.

I would like to see minimize back on the bar :)
2 Timothy 3:16-17
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness; that the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.

Very interesting indeed. The next one is Josh's hidden explosive device Attached File  Bad.gif   13.38K   0 downloads

Nah, Just kidding... no explosive devices

Seriously (as one can be after that) I'm thinking that you're really taking this website to places where it seems to have it similar to a "social" type website as well.

When I look at what you've done here and are doing here, and look at what was at eSU, I'm seeing a totally different feel here than what was back there. The three things which gives this site a totally different feel as to what eSU had (although there may be some similarities) are:
  • Connecting with one another (Adding of friends)
  • (Now) IMing (instant messaging/chatting) with each other
  • Personalized (About me) Profile page.
As far as I am aware, these features were either not there or not fully developed at eSU.

So, I think it'll be really interesting to see the extent to which you go on this site, and to what you make it. It is exciting stuff.

Blessings,
Stephen (Php 1:21).
