Hi, we limit the total number of simultaneous downloads to 5.

Hi, sorry about your issue.

The limit really is set to 5 simultaneous downloads. If you're using a download manager, or download accelerator, or download booster that "reads ahead" (downloads everything it can in the background), then that might be causing the issue because the booster may have initiated a download with your knowlege.

Other things can be if you started and stopped a download, aborted file transfer attempts, etc. then the server may not have had time to "time out" the download. But it's rarely the latter and almost always the former (download boosters and the like).

Off topic of your post, one setting in the screnshot above is: Posts required to download. I once considered making each new member post one message in the Just Saying Hi section before downloading the first time. I backed away from that after considering what the reaction might be. :)

AH! lol

Well, in that case, I guess I shall certainly have to say hello!   :D

So far, I've just been happily browsing through this beautiful area of internet. B)

Hi,

As discussed earlier in this thread, IPBoard doesn't "play well" with download managers and boosters. This website was setup so Christians could find e-Sword resources to study on an as needed basis. It wasn't really setup for data or module harvesting. I don't mind if people download every single resource. But making IPBoard more compatible with download managers isn't a priority because then I would need to lift the 5 download limit. The problem with that is a few people with high-speed connections and download managers can ruin the website experience for the other 100 people online at any given time.

Hi Josh,
Considering I'm one of those who use a Download Manager, I can definitely say that they do not download many files at once. The best it does is it will "que" your downloads, and I think the total number for files to be qued for downloading is five (dependent on the software). Then when one file is downloaded, it will automatically start downloading the next one.

Personally, taking into consideration that most of the files are less than 1MB (topx files usually about and average of 780 odd KB per file) I don't see the need for queuing files in a download manager considering the speed of Broadband. Perhaps if one is using Dialup, then it may be handy to have.

That's just my personal thoughts on it.
