Can the ability to add separate eSword startup main screens pages be included in eSword?

There are times in eSword when you may need to revise your main screen start up page to view different Bibles, Commentaries, and Dictionaries.

For Instance,

1.Having too many of each item adds too many items to a page size and slows down the page response time to selecting items.

2. Doing a study of certain items needs only the designated items on a page at a time and increases the  screen usage space.

3. You can remove items not needed on your main screen and add them back  later using the progam resources area. This  takes too much time when you need to change your study areas often.

It is proposed that in addition to the existing main startup page that 4 additional main startup pages be added that can have separate Bibles, Commentaries, and Dictionaries. Each new page would be selected from a designated selection list and be  saved with its own startup information. Pages can be designated ew1s, ew2s, ew3s, and ew4s or something similar.

Thus when you want the startup page with 20 Bibles, 35 Commentaries, and 20 Dictionaries on it, you can select it. Or when you want the page with  8 Bibles, 10 Commentaries, and 7 Dictionaries you can select it. Or when you want the page with the Hebrew - Greek information items, you can select it.

Each new main startup page would be completely independent from the other start up pages.

How can we get this in eSword? What time frame would this take? This can also be a premium item that we pay for as an add on.

Are there any thoughts on this or similar?

I don't think there is away do set up e-Sword the way you want with start up type menus to change the configuration of module as you suggest. The e-Sword program is maintained by it's creator Rick Meyers and the changes you seek would require a completely new or even alternate version of e-Sword to be written by Rick Meyers.

There is however an interesting alternative to adding menus to e-Sword for different configurations, and this to have more than one instance of e-Sword installed on your computer. Each installation of e-Sword can be configured anyway you want which would give you what you are looking for I believe.

The following Youtube video explains how to install multiple instances or copies of e-Sword on your PC and how each instance can have separate configurations:

I am also a WORDSearch 12.0 registered user.

WORDSearch already has this feature builtin.

So does TheWORD 5.0.

Wonder why this cannot be in e-Sword too?

Perhaps at startup if you could tell e-Sword

what you wanted.  6 Bibles - 12 Commentaries

and 4 Dictionaries, etc... Seems like a selection

you could predetermine via the Resources settings

At times would like to have it simple.  Maybe even

a nice setup just for Greek Word Study.   Then, as

e-Sword loads, you you tell it Plan #1, Plant #2,

Plan #3, or Plan #4.  And being able to modify a

desktop setup for e-Sword would be nice.  Use this

some in WORDSearch 12.0.

It might be doable but it would depend on how much reprogramming of e-Sword would be involved. The method I posted above having multiple installs of e-Sword on a PC accomplishes same thing while keeping a users e-Sword resources neatly organized

I am not a professional programmer.

Used to program some in Visual Basic a long time ago.

Why not a simple database file that could contain the

setup for say, a dozen different desktops.  Kinda like

in The Word.  The information could be input from

the Options/Resource Settings in the e-Sword Menu.

Then upon startup, e-Sword would first give you a

choice of "Default Desktop" like what is currently

established in the Resource Settings.  That would

be Option #1 upon Startup.  Option #2 would be a

user configured Desktop Menu listing the various

user desktops (say up to 10 or 12) depending on the

users needs.

With such a menu one might have all of your premium

Bibles such as NKJV, NASB, NIV, HCSB, NLT2, etc...

Then on the Commentary pane the tabs might have

just Full Commentary Sets: Pulpit, Adam Clarke, etc...

Dictionaries chosen could be likewise.  The idea being

to streamline the appearance and allow more room at

time for text in say, the Commentary pane, etc...

What you describe above is pretty much what the concept of having multiple installations of e-Sword accomplishes by way of creating and assigning new users for each installation of e-Sword. The video I posted above explains the steps involved using one installation called default and a second installation called "Greek Study". Modules are downloaded into separate folders for each installation, which keeps things organized

This may be something that would work for you. The program is called "Resourcer" and can be found here

http://www.biblesupp...0067-resourcer/

I have not used it so can not give a review.

If you try it and it works please let  us know how it works out for you.

I dwnloaded the program and took  a quick look at it. Seems to have potential but did note that it will only show pre Ver 12 files. No {BBLI, CMTI , DCTI etc) perhaps one of our more advanced users could change that so these will be shown and usable.
