I have made a number of modules for e-Sword 9-10 in rtf and am just now learning some html encoding.  I would like to have verse notes as pop-ups in Bible texts, similar to the notes in the "ESV with notes" module for my iPhone.  The usual html coding is like this:

 

<span title="Literally <i>day one</i>">[1]</span>

 

in which the note is seen on screen as "[1]" and when one mouseovers [1] the comment about the "Literally..." shows up.

But this html coding does not seem recognized in my e-Sword modules.

 

Also, is there a list of codes recognized by e-Sword, such as <ref> as in  <ref>Joh_3:16</ref> ?  I have been able to experiment and discover some, but can a list be made available?

 

Some of my rtf modules are complex and have not converted well with the .dctx to .lexi conversion and I have had to do a custom conversion.

Does anyone know how the pop-up notes (as in the ESV notes module in iPhone) are encoded?  For example for Luk_23:34:

 

<not>N1 omitted in several of the oldest greek mss. P75 ℵ2a B D* W Θ 070 579 1241; also omitted in VL mss. Vercellensis and Bezae and by the Old Syriac Sinaiticus (but present in the Old Syriac Curetonian ms) and also omitted in the Coptic (Sahidic & Bohairic). Present in ℵ* ℵ2b A C D3, etc., and over 15 early church writers from the late 100s to 400 AD. Also present in versions: Vg, Ethiopic, Armenian</not>

 

shows up on the screen in its entirety, though colored olive and superscripted, but not simply as ^N1.

How then is it to be formatted so the longer text is seen only with mouseover?

Creating pop up notes in e-Sword is not a function that is not available in e-Sword Tooltip.

The data of the notes are on another table of the SQL database.

Look to Bible modules that have notes AND are not locked with BLOB.

OGNTv for example to understand how it works.

 

For the pop up need you to set options/Scripture Tooltip and select "Active translation" for both Testaments or select the correct translation in e-Sword 12.

 

It works in e-Sword HD

I can't find the option in e-Sword HD because you don't need to select "Active translation" as default if only one Bible tab is shown.

 

For e-Sword LT is the resolution too small for a big pop-up or big tooltip.

Thank you for your reply.  I am not able to find "OGNTv".  If it is Orthodox Greek New Testament, I do not find the specific edition of it you are referring to.

 

I have incorrectly stated that the "ESV with notes" has mouseover.  When one taps on the note citation, eg: ^N4, then it opens a new window on the iPhone showing the comment, which must then be closed to see the ESV text again, so about the same as tapping on C for Commentary and finding the linked note there.  The advantage when making a module is that one would be able to have the note inline so that one does not have to match 2 modules (bbli and cmti) when adding a note.

The above anchor will work as a mouseover in e-Sword-PC but there is added "Control+Shift to follow link" inside the tootip.  One cannot use unicode Hebrew or Greek or various formatting codes in the text such as <p>.  The href code above could be somewhat useful for footnotes within modules like Lange.cmti, which don't seem to work correctly.
