I had been using an older version of e-sword (sorry, don't know which one because I lost it when I tried to upgrade). Recently, I noticed that I couldn't download any new resources and discovered that it was because I wasn't using the new v. 11.0.6. So, I downloaded the new version and installed it, but as soon as the install was complete, the program would not open. When I click the icon (or select it from the start menu list) all that happens is the cursor briefly changes to the "working" cursor (pointer w/ hourglass). Nothing else. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling. redownloading the setup file and reinstalling, even removed all the resources I had previously downloaded from "program files" as well as "documents/e-sword."

Any ideas on why it isn't working for me?

Install or start as an Administrator (right click on icon).

If that not helping; try this.

I tried to "run as administrator" (though I don't have that option in those words for Windows XP, but tried something equivalent), but it did not work. I also followed the directions in the thread you linked, but it also did not work.

Any other ideas?

Any other ideas?

Yep, do either of these:

  1. Upgrade to Windows 10
  2. If your machine isn't able to handle Windows 10, then get a new one with with it on it.

I think your current machine is kind of on its last legs. And if that is the case, then you are seriously in need of a new one.

If you can't afford a new one, then see if someone you know in your area/church, who know how to revamp a PC, and make it run like new and then put on Windows 10, you can try that.

In all sincerity this is the best advise I can give you, and one which I seriously believe you should take up.

Blessings,

So, e-sword is no longer compatible with Windows XP? Is that what you're telling me?

So, e-sword is no longer compatible with Windows XP? Is that what you're telling me?

Depending on your version of e-Sword, and if its e-Sword 11x, then no. But if you're using a version that is really old (from the days of version 6, 7, or 8), then more likely its yes.

That said, the problem could be just your system is simply starting to die, and rather than depending on something that's old and tired, it may be time for you to get a new machine.

Blessings,

Why can't you just re-install v10.4?  That should work good on XP and there are thousands of modules available.  BUT YES, all new modules from the eSword site are not compatible with the older eSword - but the ones here are, for the time being anyway.

For myself, I consider it a good idea to keep back-up executable files (,exe) on separate DVD data disks or portable hard drives.  It solves a lot of problems for me.

God Bless,

Larry G.

I have an e-Sword 9 and an e-Sword 10 disk (you get a copy of the current version of e-Sword when you donate on the e-Sword site.  They make great souvenirs and help keep e-Sword available.

There is no free DVD for donatig here at Bible support, but it does help keep Bible Support on line for all of us.

Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, (Jeremiah 9:23-24a)

"Defenders of the faith are inclined to be bitter until they learn to walk in the light of the Lord. When you have learned to walk in the light of the Lord, bitterness and contention are impossible." --Oswald Chambers, in Biblical Psychology from The Quotable Oswald Chambers.

I am running Windows XP Pro sp 3 and its still up to date.  I can say that cause I am a computer Tech and Network Admin and there are Still updates you can get and I know my system is NOT failing and has plenty of OOMPH. Way strong enough quad core, 4 gig of ram and a video card with 2 gig of ram.

So Is the current level of esword compatible with XP or not.  If not it was never posted on eswords download page and that info should be displayed predominately there.

Win10 is a GARBAGE OS and the last OS microsoft made that was any good was Win7 Ultimate as its the only one that you could control what of their updates could be downloaded.  And thats not right.  I make money off of when Windows updates are not compatible with the hardware and software combos  peoples computers have cause MS wants to play snob and try to make everyone with any piece of software to pay 600 or more just to be certified which is trash.

I use to tell people about this program and really liked it.  But if esword is going to take the same path as Microsoft then its not a piece of software that is worth having and your goal that you say you have of reaching the world cannot ever happen cause the world cannot afford to all be on the same level operating system or all have enough oomph to run new OSs so you are cutting those people off. FACT.

Now how do I get this to work on my machine?  When I 1st found out about esword back in the early 2000s A LOT of the WORLDs population was STILL running Windows 3.11 for workgroups so they could do some computer work and surf the web and install programs they could use.  My guess is that there are sill people using that OS and cannot afford to do more.

It sounded like this will work on XP so out with how ot make it work.  Do not just tell people that its cause their computer is about to die when I now for me that is NOT the case.
