Hello, all.  Just to clarify, this post is not dealing with using the highlighting tool.  I use e-Sword regularly while presenting lessons in church services and during home Bible studies.  It is an excellent tool!  I use it with both wireless projectors and flat-screen TV's.  Many times, while reading out loud, I select individual words, verses, and passages with my cursor.  This technique makes it easier for people to follow along, especially visitors who are not very familiar with the Bible.  In version 10.4, text would turn white upon selection and the surrounding color was a nice sky blue.  (See file version-10-highlighting.png.)  Selected text popped out and was easy to read.  With the introduction of version 11, however, selected text no longer turns white and the color surrounding the text has changed too.  It's not a good highlighting color, rather a pale grayish-blue.  (See version-11-highlighting.png.)  It's not as easy to read as before when projecting on a screen or flat-screen TV.  I wrote Rick Meyers about this two times, but he never answered.  My guess is that he feels that changing the color of highlighted text and/or the highlight color itself is not important or not worth the effort involved in changing the coding.  Is there anyway that e-Sword could be tweaked to change this back to the style used in 10.4 or to create a highlighting color that will make the text stand out better?  I've attached two snapshots to give you a better idea of what I'm talking about.  Of course, I realize that whether or not version 10 is easier to read than version 11 is somewhat subjective.  Some may not agree with my estimation.

So... I take it that the blue colored selected text is from version 10x, and that the grey one is from version 11x

Right... e-Sword doesn't have the ability to change the color of the selection highlight, and tend to think that, going by what I'm seeing, that this may have a lot to do with the operating system rather than with e-Sword. Best way to test this theory is to see what other the selected text color is in other programs, i.e., MS Word, some other text editor and etc.

Just another thing too, which just came to mind is that this could be a Windows Registry thing that could be fixed by changing the values. This is purely a guess, so it might take a bit of a experimentation on your part if you're willing to give it a go..

Blessings,

An obvious workaround would be to use your word processor to produce a copy of what you wish to project highlighted in any color or combination of colors you desire.

Effectively you would be building a PowerPoint presentation (at least for the planed scripture excerpts)

Like all workarounds, this would require extra effort, and last minute inclusions could call for "flying fingers" to copy and highlight "on the fly" to make the quick cut and paste needed.

Just a thought.

Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, (Jeremiah 9:23-24a)

"Defenders of the faith are inclined to be bitter until they learn to walk in the light of the Lord. When you have learned to walk in the light of the Lord, bitterness and contention are impossible." --Oswald Chambers, in Biblical Psychology from The Quotable Oswald Chambers.

Thanks for the help, guys.

When I select text in your responses (above), I get the same effect as in version 10 of e-Sword (i.e., white text, surrounded by a sky blue color).  I even get the same effect when selecting text in this window.  (See attached screenshot.  I'm using Chrome.)

When I select text in MS Word, I get black text and a blueish highlight color similar to that of version 11 of e-Sword.  However, when I select text in Word Pad, for instance, I get white text surrounded by a sky blue color.

I'm guessing that the difference between black text and a grayish blue highlighting color or white text and a sky blue highlighting color is due to different coding done by the programmer (?).

It appears to be a programmer choice. Notice that I changed the system colors, but it did not effect the Bible view text selection.

Yes, This has been a problem for a long time.  I agree with Jon's comment.  It is not an O/S problem.  The developer just does not want to do it.

My work around is to copy the highlighted search results into Word (make sure you retain formatting and paste in using source formatting.)  Then use Word's Search and Replace function to mass change the highlight.  I have created a quick video to help with that.  I could not find an upload function so here is the link to it.   Will leave the link active as long as I have this computer.  Word Mass Highlight Change.mp4

Hope this helps someone.

The e-Sword bible windows includes a highlight color change option there is button with a highlight maker in the tools of the verse window. The verse window displays with four buttons greyed out until you highlight verse. Once you highlight a verse the four greyed out buttons become active one of the four buttons has a highlight marker and drop down arrow with a verse highlighted click the drop down button. This will open a small box labeled "Highlight Color" this small box displays with six pastel color options, a color palate option and a white color option. You can use any of the preset pastel colors or click the palate option to access the full windows color palate. If you want remove a highlight color, you highlight the colored verse and the use the white option from the Highlight color box

It is not an O/S problem.  The developer just does not want to do it.

And that is where it actually lies whether one likes it or not. If one doesn't like it, too bad!

That said, remember that the developer/programmer/author of the program is in total control, and has the right to make it according to his taste and liking. And also to what he thinks works best. But more importantly, the developer has to make the program efficient to be able to work in its environment effectively without using or gobbling up the computers resources to where it will cause a crash.

However, from what I'm seeing, its the highlighted color when Selecting text as a result of dragging the cursor over it. That is caused by the Text Control, and not on the programmer's choice, and that cannot be changed—At all. Period! Totally outside of the developer's purview.

Maybe I should do a video about this, and plonk it up here. (Tomorrow or whenever).

Blessings,

Stephen (Php 1:21).
