Hi, I'm hoping someone can help.

I'm looking for the Hebrew Old Testament Bible without spaces, vowels, or cantillation signs, and without being keyed to Strong's numbers. This would be as originally transcribed in Hebrew, yet having book, chapter, and verse markings as contained in our modern Bibles. Does anyone know if something like this exists in digital format, or for e-sword?

I appreciate any help, Thanks!

Hebrew OT (by the Bible download of the e-Sword program) has no vowel points, no Strong's numbers nor cantillation marks except the Sof passuk  ׃and ־

If you can copy it to a txt file (don't forget to "save as"  UTF-8 encoding) then need you only to remove all spaces. (use edit /replace and use a space in the first line and nothing in the second line(replace with) and use "replace all" in notepad).

"Hebrew Old Testament Bible without spaces" is a problem for Bible programs: there is a limit of the number of characters without space ( Esther 8:9 is the longest Hebrew verse) and word search shall not longer work.

Sorry, I'm not much good at doing that sort of thing. I'm studying the Bible in Hebrew and just thought I'd be able to find a copy of Hebrew Scripture in digital format that's close to the original.

I realize there may be some difficulty in searching long verses, but it hardly seems right that we've got all these modified Bibles and study tools (each interpreted by their respective owners), yet there's not one for e-Sword that reflects the original source as it was first written. Everything is already dissected, marked up, and (supposedly) deciphered.

Please excuse my frankness, and don't take me wrong when I say this because I'm truly thankful for all we have, but doesn't anyone else see a problem with NOT having the ability to study the God's Word in its original unmodified form within an outstanding program like e-Sword?

I'll agree. Having a copy of the original Hebrew writings would most definitely help in studying, and should be the foremost place of reference in understanding.

Does anyone know of an uncopyrighted source of Hebrew Scripture?

Without appearing to being rude, I think in what you are attempting to do appears to be somewhat pedantic due to that it really makes little to no difference to exegesis, and/or to the reading/speaking and understanding of Hebrew. Moreover, having the vowel points in Hebrew, when understood, are very helpful in learning the pronunciation of Hebrew words.

no Strong's numbers nor cantillation marks

On this I actually agree as they are distractions. That said, going back to the vowel points, The Masoretic text has vowel points in them, of which both the BHS and WLC for e-Sword are based on them. And my advice and suggestion, is that you should use either one of them.

I believe your statement is in error. Perfection is of God, not of man.The original Hebrew text is how God intended it to be studied, not as man has modified it. To even consider that man could ever revise God's Word into something of greater value than what God has designed, simply borders on the ludicrous.

Sure, if you're worried about pronunciation and vowel points, then that's fine, include all the extras. However, understanding is foremost. Pronunciation is completely useless next to this. Besides, someone desiring to own a copy of God's Word in its original form shouldn't even be questioned, it should be a given.

Again, don't get me wrong. I truly wish the best for everyone here. But I can do no more than state the obvious. And if no one sees a problem, I will leave it at that. It's just difficult to imagine there's such large forum as this which is dedicated to understanding God's Word, yet not one person has the original source of Hebrew Scripture to do so. Doesn't that seem the least bit odd?

The closest Bible I've found as you described is the Aleppo Codex uploaded by "patchworkid". Here's the link. It still has the spaces but it does not contain any extras. Hope that helps.

Blessings...

The Aleppo Codex has still paragraph and semi-paragraph marks (Parashah or plural Parashot)

It is easy to delete because it is between ().

That is your opinion, and you can believe whatever you like.

That said, in what you are asking for doesn't exist, and that's not an opinion, but a reality.

And if you really want to go back to the "original" Hebrew, my recommendation is to go down the road that Jeff Benner had taken, the Ancient Hebrew Language.

And if no one sees a problem...

On that, a kindly word of advice. That isn't a problem for most, if not all. The problem is one of your own making because of unrealistic standards you place on yourself, and as such you place demands on yourself to attain a perfection which is not just unrealistic, but also is unattainable. My advice, you need to chill out and relax, go and have some fun. Remember, the kind of format of Hebrew text you are looking for doesn't exist.

Blessings,

Someone requesting or suggesting a Bible translation should never be criticized, but, rather, encouraged as an opportunity to teach others God’s Truths. Nor should there exist criticism of a contributor, such as Jeff Benner, who has spent countless hours fulfilling a purpose on his path towards God. Without people like him, we could have no possibility of extending our knowledge beyond what we already know. And just because someone teaches or asks about something we can’t understand, it doesn’t mean we shut the door and place them in a category which falls in line with what we consider incorrect. Everyone grows in faith.

The request which was made had a foundation of truth based on what God had originally transcribed through His prophets. Without that original copy, none of the other translations could ever exist. It should be our desire to posses, rather than ridicule a search for the original, and a request of that nature should be no more subjected to criticism than any other Bible currently on the market.

Lastly, this website was designed to help others study God’s Word. Understanding comes by way of God, and not by judgment based on one’s opinions. If helping others has ceased to exist in this forum, and if God is being thrown out, I will graciously step aside… as I will not be part of that.

May God help us all…
