I have Esword on my laptop with numerous modules, some I have purchased and some I have downloaded for free.  How can I transfer them over from my laptop to my desktop?

I’m willing to compromise about many things, but not the Word of God

There must be conviction before there can be conversion

HOW CAN I MOVE MY E-SWORD TO A NEW COMPUTER?

Copy the e-Sword *program* directory (typically "C:\Program Files (x86)\e-Sword\") onto the new PC as this will get your various modules transferred. You will still need to install e-Sword from its setup program to properly install the various system files, etc.

Also, you will want to copy the contents of your e-Sword *user* directory (typically "Libraries\Documents\My Documents\e-Sword\") to get your personal notes and other customizations transferred.

I am using a PC.  I have downloaded the Esword program onto my desktop but that is all.

Moving or copying e-Sword resources from one machine (PC) to another is perhaps the most easiest things anyone can do. And all it takes in a pen drive (Memory Stick).

Depending on how many resources you have, a 16 or 32GB Pen Drive is sufficient to do the job. And with that, here is what you need to do:

  • In the current machine you are using, simply put in your Pen Drive into a USB port.
  • Then open Windows File Explorer/Manager, or whatever you call it.
  • From there go to your e-Sword folder
  • select all your resource files and then drag it over to to where Windows File Explorer shows where your Pen Drive is, and then just drop them into there.
  • Close down Windows File Explorer, and then remove your Pen Drive.

OK now for stage two:

  • In your new machine, bang in your Pen Drive into a USB Port
  • Open Windows File Explorer.
  • Go to your Pen Drive, and then select all you resource files
  • Drag them over to where your e-Sword folder is on your C: drive, and then drop them in there.
  • Exit Windows Explorer, and boot up e-Sword, and hey presto you will see all your resource files.

I trust this is helpful to you.

Blessings,

Thanks.  I think I got them.  I had 2 folders.  The modules were in Program Files (x86) folder and the topic files were in the documents folder.  Your help is much appreciated.

I am missing my ESV Bible as well as 10 commentaries.  Everything else seems to be there.  Does anyone have an idea where they might be or why they didn't copy over?

Ok I found it.  I had to search my File Explorer for some of the files.  They were in C:\users\owner\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\e-sword.  I have them now.

Yes, E-Sword is a wonderful program, indeed, but, as of version 11, the only main drawback (other than the very limited interface color options, no dark theme, etc.) is that it is very complicated to move your E-Sword collection, compared to other Bible-study programs such as TheWord. If you ever move the folder even within the same computer, you can expect modules to disappear until you re-install parts of the program as described above. In fact, as you may know from other posts on the forum, there is this obnoxious issue with the E-Sword installer, whereby, years after installing the program correctly, merely opening certain unrelated programs initates the old E-Sword installer somehow, requiring that the process be cancelled each time, before you can open those programs. Nevertheless, once you get the program working, it is indeed a God-send, and we are blessed to have people like Rick Meyers and Josh Bond spending so much time in order to make it available to us and to make an abundance of modules available for our use.
