Hi all,

Do you know if E-sword is continued to be developed? Is there a place in this forum to make a feature request? I have a simple feature request - nothing major, E-sword is actually quite strong as it is.

Rick Meyers is the only developer of e-Sword.

You can contact him there

http://www.e-sword.net/feedback.html

And use suggestion.

If you have a question about a new feature then can you post here.

Below is a copy of a message I sent to Rick Meyers  relating to your inquiry.

Blessings,

Hi Rick,
Its been a while now since I've last contacted you.

As you may be aware that I'm somewhat a techno geek, and also a real fan of e-Sword. One of the things that I'm really interested in is the (not too distant) future development of this program in regard to what's up next, and when's it going to happen kind of thing.

One of the those things that keeps on rearing its, um, ugly head is the question of having an e-Sword for Android , of which I'm a right royally proverbial pain in the neck  supporter of this idea. However, this is not what this is about, so you can breathe a sigh of relief on that one.

What I am actually more interested in (of which there seems to be a growing momentum of questions being asked about it) is the "when's the next version of e-Sword for PC going to happen " kind of inquiry.

Version 10.4 is now getting about a couple of years old, and I'm really getting curious as to when we may expect to see a new version of e-Sword for Windows.

I'm aware that you usually don't make announcements regarding when a new release of e-Sword is going to happen and etc. And I don't expect you to do it this time around. However, I like it if you could give a bit of news as to what is happening in regard to e-Sword for Windows, and what kind of things we may expect to see in it, if any.

Well, that's it from me on this one, and trust that you have a really great day and are blessed right up to your eyeballs.

Blessings,
Stephen Jovanovic (Php 1:21).

OK, here is some news from Rick resulting from the email I sent him, and I trust this may prove helpful to you all.

Stephen,

I am at a bit of a crossroads with the development of e-Sword for the PC.
For 15 years it has been written in Visual Basic, and while it still runs
on Windows 10, it does so in handicapped form. Also, there are some
resource types I would like to be able to develop which the current
framework cannot support in its current form. I have been weighing the
pros and cons between a total rewrite, or seeing how much more I can do
with the current code base. While a rewrite might be a better long term
solution, upsetting 30 million users because everything doesn't work
exactly the same means dealing with a lot more support emails! I think I
can accomplish some of the gains I would get from a rewrite by doing a few
creative things in the current code base. It also radically shortens the
release time!

I may not have answered your question, but as I have mentally migrated
from the Apple world and back to Windows you can be sure that the next
update is coming one day!

In His service,

Rick Meyers

So, with that, this is more than I expected. There is a wealth of information in his reply, and the one thing I seem to glean from this, is that when the new version of e-Sword does come out, its going to be different from what it is in its current state.

I would like to make two suggestions in regard to this reply.

  1. Pray for him. That actually should go without saying.
  2. Send him encouraging support around what he wants to do.

Blessings,

Thank you both! I am actually quite glad to hear feedback from Rick. I depend so much on E-sword for PC. Hearing that he has renewed interest in that is encouraging.

And YES - let's pray for him and support in any way we can.

Much grace, Agust

I'm really looking forward to whatever comes next, even if it might mean a learning curve.
