ToolTip: Don't change book format when creating Scripture ToolTips

Is it possible to create scripture tooltips, but NOT change the name/format of the book?

I don't want full book names abbreviated.  Nor do I want abbreviated book names converted to full book names.  I want what I've written to NOT change, just want the tooltip to be displayed in e-sword.

Hi Jake,

I'm not exactly certain as to what you mean by creating "scripture tooltips, however I'll try to address your question on the how you asked it.

Tooltips are generated in Tooltip Tool NT (T4) and in all of e-Swords Editors. To find out how to generate tooltips in T4, refer to the User Guide which can be accessed from the Help Menu.

In e-Sword, to generate scripture tooltips is relatively simple. Highlight the relevant reference and use the shortcut key sequence, Crtl+J or click on the Speech Box Icon on the Toolbar.

Well, with that, you will not be able to generate the tooltip, as e-Sword will not read a full book name. All Scripture tooltips are by default abbreviated Bible references. The rtf code for Scripture tooltip looks like this: {\cf11\ul Gen_1:1}. So when generated, you get this output, Gen_1:1. You can try to code it in T4 or SQLite Database Manager as, {\cf11\ul Genesis_1:1}, but I can assure you that you will not have the reference displayed as a tooltip. It simply will not work.

e-Sword, and neither will T4 generate the full Book names as part of the displayable Scripture Tooltip, and therefore what Abbreviated Bible references you have, these can be displayed as a tooltip.

Two things you will have to accept are:

1. All Scripture tooltips are by default abbreviated Bible references


2. That e-Sword will not display fully named Bible references as a tooltip

And as much as you will not like it, the fact remains that if you wish all your Scripture references to be read in a tooltip, then they will have to be abbreviated.

For e-Sword to show the scripture reference, the verse must be abbreviated. 

However, you can configure ToolTip to color the reference black like the rest of the text.

Here's an example of my scenario using e-sword ToolTip Tool NT to create a document...
 
I write a document containing a mixture of full book names and abbreviated book names.  Sometimes using a full book name is more appropriate with my writing, sometimes an abbreviation is more appropriate.  I also try not to presume my audience will recognize an abbreviated book name, but will use abbreviations once I've already included a full book name. 

What I write:
 Fig 1.png   39.86K   13 downloads
 
I then create the references using the menu Scripture\Tooltip:

 Fig 2.png   46.41K   13 downloads
 
The command converts my text to abbreviated book names:

 Fig 3.png   42.25K   16 downloads
 
What I really want my text to look like (including have the tooltip available for both references):

 Fig 4.png   42.47K   14 downloads

My assumption is the reference is embedded in the document and/or something happens during the saving of the document to a topx file.  

But perhaps e-sword's tooltip feature just looks at the format for referencing?  Maybe I should be asking e-sword for this feature?

Perhaps

you can wright the full book names when needed like this or something similar (Matthew Mat_5:1)  your full book name will be there and the Mat 5:1 will popup 

there is no way to do a popup with a full book name tooltipping will convert to abbreviated book name

you can also toolip each reference by hand avoiding the full book names but then theses will not popup

IF you do not want to convert full book names to a popup tooltip in e-Sword using Tooltip Tool, create an external abbreviation file and remove all the full book names.

Example, in the abbreviation file, where the entry is "43-JOHN", put a semi-colon in front of it and it will no longer be recognized as a value "abbreviation".  Then, is your document has the following 

Test one: John 3:16

Test two: Jo 3:16

Now if you tooltip the whole document, the first reference will be ignored and the second will be formatted as an e-Sword tooltip and the result will be as follows:

Test one: John 3:16

Test two: Joh_3:16

But NOTE - the first reference will not show as a popup in e-Sword because it is not formatted the way e-Sword needs it to be to display it as a scripture reference.  That just is how e-Sword works.
