I would like to see a module for "The Epistle to the Hebrews: Christ All Excelling", by W. E. Vine.

Sorry, I do not have a link to a .pdf file - still looking.

mijac,

Nobody is supporting any previous e-Sword versions. You may wish to consider an upgrade to version 10.1. It is free. It is worth the effort expended. All the versions you have now are either available for it already or they can be converted to the newest format. There is no downside of which I am aware ... well one. You may have a sore backside. This would be self-inflicted by you kicking your own rear-end for not upgrading sooner.

There are a couple of organizations, and individuals that support e-Sword 7.9.5. (At least, I think that is the version. It is from either the 7.9.x or 7.8.x series. ) This is the most recent version that offers reasonable accessibility.

I haven't yet tested e-Sword 10.1.0, and A11Y.

I plan to run the major stress tests on e-Sword 10.1.0 later this week.

I agree. I realize that the resource break from 8.x to 9.x can be intimidating. But there's a converter that converts everything in the folder. Point, click, upgrade. Not hard. There will be a few issues for a few people, but statistically they are very small. e-Sword is download many thousands of times per day. If upgrading were really really difficult, the support emails would be overwhelming.

What I don't understand at all is the mentality that small upgrades (like 10.05 to 10.1) is time consuming, problematic, wrought with the room for error, people biting their nails from nervousness, people weighing the pros and cons of upgrading, etc. I've seen people give "upgrade recommendations" where they recommend you upgrade or not upgrade. *Sigh*, this is where I bang my head against the wall. :D Anytime e-Sword offers a non-beta upgrade, you should use it (barring a situation where Rick has removed a popular feature and people were upset--which only happened once or twice, lol). I almost have a soap box going here, don't I? :) Ok, I'll leave this one alone for a while.

As you speak of problematic upgrades.. Microsoft is the author of painful upgrades with it's operating systems. Their operating system upgrades do cause problems, so much so that I think that may be the root of the upgrade phobia problem. Upgrading has been tarnished by the painful experiences of lost data, programs that no longer worked, printers that became obsoleted, all by a so called upgrade.

I did find that jump from version 8 to 9 somewhat painful and intimidating. I think many people are at a level where they really do not understand things well enought to trouble shoot minor issues when it comes to computer software. I have fiends and relatives that are very smart in many areas. They have lot of life experience and wisdom, yet, when they sit down in front a computer, they are lost, completely lost.

Well now I'm selling soap too..

Upgrading can break things that used to work. Whilst that is more likely to affect users of e-Sword on *Nix, or Mac OS X, it can also affect Windows users.

In e-Sword 10.0.5, I didn't have the ability to do search.
With one version of e-Sword 7.x, I didn't have the ability to view images in Map/Graphic resources.

Yeah, you're right. Very thoughtful post. I forget many are not well versed with technical issues.

I'm picky about upgrading versions of Windows. I left Vista for Windows 7 about a year ago. Best upgrade in a long time for me, many productivity and usability enhancements! Although my printer isn't totally compatible with Windows 7 *sigh*. :)

hi
back to the question about the module, you can use BeST2 to convert v9 to v7.

But the question is why not upgrade? Version 10.1 is the best so far. If it is about loss of modules ASK (PM) me or others for help.

If you still have the v7 program, back up your v7 modules then install v10 to test it out. You will find that this newest version is much better than 7.

thanks

Josh may be *sighing* at me. I'm one who posts "download recommendations" as to "si" or "no." (NOTE: That is a little bit of Detroit Tigers Baseball lingo. It's based on a Spring Training 'game' with Miguel Cabrera & Prince Fielder hitting at the batting cage. They're calling their shots: "si" for "yes, it's a home run," and "no" for - well, I think you get it.)

Here's why I do it: when 7.8 was released, it took Rick 5 renditions to get it right (7.8.1, 7.8.2, etc. up to 7.8.5). When 8.0 was released, it took him 6. Fast forward to 10.0 - it took him 7 tries to get it right.

Question: who wants to have to go through that? When 7.9 came out, and none of my Strong's codes were working - not only was I not a happy camper, I had no idea why things weren't working. (I'm a little more technically adept now.) It took 8 renditions to get that one straightened around. Was it 9.9 when we lost a lot of the user made commentaries? (I don't remember now.) And let's not even bring up the fiasco of 9x....

So, I try to keep folks up to date with what's happening when new releases are made. I typically wait for the shakeout to finish (10.0.1, 10.0.2, 10.0.3...), and then give my "green light." You have no idea what kind of support questions I get sometimes.... "Why does this cup holder stick out of the front of my computer?"

It's too bad Rick has opted not to do public beta release testing. I think the vast majority of his bugs could be worked out by people who wanted to do it, rather than releasing a public upgrade and then dealing with the fallout.

Until then - "si or no" stays in play. *Sigh.*
