Does anyone know how to convert TOP file to TOPX files using the convert macro so that I can view them in the topics editor?

I'm not familiar with a conversion "macro". I recommend this e-Sword 8 to 9 converter which will work in single-file mode or batch (multiple) file mode. I've used it a number of times without a single problem.

Gents - I've read forums until my eyes are rolling back in my head. I'm trying to take some study notes (about 31,000+) of them from version 8.0.6 to version 9.9.1 I've noted that I can export each note (one per verse) from the old version into an .rtf file that will import into the new version but surely that is not the only way to do it.

all of the notes are in .not file used for the old version and used the "e-Sword 8 to 9 converter" tool to convert it to a .notx file. but how do I add that to my new version?

You need to copy your new .notx file to your my documents\e-sword folder.

Usually, you can go to the start menu and in the search box, type:

%userprofile%\my documents\e-sword\

And then press enter. Copy the .notx file into that folder.

Hi Darren

If you have already converted the STUDY.NOT file to STUDY.NOTX using the converter, you just need to copy it to My documents\e-Sword, overwriting the one that is there (it is blank).

Next time you open e-Sword it should appear there.

Regards,

Carlos

Can someone tell me how long it will be before we can upload items? I finally figured out how to convert my "Holding Fast to Creation" by David Hall version 8 to version 9 and would like to provide it. Also I'm wondering where it seems to have disappeared since I couldn't find it in the list of version 8 topics? Thanks! Russ Davis. Since this site's kind squirrelly right now, please email me at russedav@frontier.com.
PS I'm not really a new member but I couldn't figure out how to retrieve my info during the transfer to the new site.

Gents - thanks a thousand thanks! I pray God blesses you for blessing me in this way!

As a resource for others crossing this same bridge, here's what I did:

a. locate the old .not file in the program files of my old e-Sword (version 8) on the PC
b. download the above mentioned converter
c. convert the old .not file into a new .notx file
d. download/install new version (v.9) onto Mac via CrossOver
e. transfer it from the PC to via memory stick
f. remove the initially installed "study.notx" file (I just dropped it in the Trash)
g. transfer the new .notx file from memory stick to the Mac e-Sword folder in Documents
h. rename the new .notx file (the same one transferred from PC) to "study.notx" to replace the other .notx file I previously dropped in the trash
i. open up e-Sword; there it is!
j. CRITICAL LAST STEP: give God thanks and express gratitude for the help on this forum! :)

Hi,

Let's take these one at a time.

1) Everyone can upload as far as I know. Other members are uploading on a daily basis, so I know uploading is working. Can you give me some details on why you can't upload (i.e. what is the site saying when you try to upload?)

2) A search of the downloads shows that "Holding Fast", by David Hall is already uploaded in Version 8 format and Version 9 format. The upload date on the files is approximately June 23rd.

3) I'm unaware of any downloads lost during the upgrade. No errors were reported during the upgrade and no one has reported any broken downloads. If you uploaded a copy of the version 8 before the upgrade, it's possible one of my moderators removed the file because it was a duplicate of the file previously uploaded on June 23rd. If you upload a duplicate, and the version you're uploading is better/enhanced, just make a note of that so we know. Otherwise, we remove duplicate files when we find them to avoid clutter.

Finally, when you have problems like your having, you may want to start your own message thread, rather than posting in an unrelated thread. This way, you won't be overlooked. I think I overlooked your message because it blended in with other replies in this thread and I assumed the replies were related to the original poster's issue. By starting your own thread, it gets more attention.

Let me know what else you need, especially on that uploading issue.

Josh
