I keep getting this error when i try to download bibles or commentaries, and now I am trying to do a fresh install, deleting the program folder, files in my documents, deleting reg entries using both CCleaner and Eusing reg cleaner -- after I finished I reinstalled 1010 fresh but my old font and background config is still there, and I can't find the location of this file.

When I asked e-sword support about the initial problem they said it was my firewall - but that is not the problem. I installed e-sword 1010 with no problem and was able to connect successfully on a back up laptop.
I can still manually install older downloaded content but anything new is not available to me

Any Ideas on reparing this? I would appreciate any helpful suggestions

This error shows when you try to click Downloads from the e-Sword menu and download a module? And this is happening in e-Sword 10.1?

Usually it's the firewall. And it's usually the firewall you don't know you have installed. :) Try disabling any anti-virus software your computer came with or that you have installed. Also try disabling Windows firewall. Then you can re-enable and configure later to pinpoint the issue.

I'm not saying I couldn't be missing something but I
shut down my firewall
verified windows firewall was shut down
then shut down my virus protection and still I get "error connecting to internet"

Ok I just set esword to ask for permission to access the internet in my firewall it was set to allow now set to ask

I chose download bibles from menu, the firewall asked me if I wanted to allow I checked allow and then got the "error connecting to internet" error again

for me this does not seem to be a firewall issue

Check the properties page of e-Sword.exe and make sure it is not blocked.

I know what I have installed - I disabled both the firewall (zone alarm) and my anti virus (avast) and even uninstalled it and used an open source anti virus.
The firewall microsoft provides is disabled and has been - I still get the error and yes I am using 1010 but it has been a problem since 10 came out -- I was hoping this update would have fixed the problem...I am using XP "media edition" that shows up as "professional" on other utilities

I have an end around by copying the files from the other computer to this one to get the add ons -- that works for now but it would be nice to find out
why I get this error.

i feel your pain. I had similar issues. What fixed it for me was I bought Webroot. I uninstalled all Norton firewall/antivirus that came with new computer. Then installed Webroot program. I now have no more issues and I have great protection as well. Norton may be good at what it does, I don't know. I do know it is impossible to work with sometimes especially for an idiot like me!

I had the same error warning.  I happened to have no antivirus, no firewall, but spyware protection with ccleaner and spybot both.  I disabled ccleaner, and my e-sword internet connection was restored.  Maybe two spywares were the problem.
