I am using SUSE Linux 11.4 and installed wine and e-Sword 9.X. Esword runs well under wine but there is one problem. When I do a search I always get zero results has anyone seen this behaviour? In the mean time I run a Windows XP Virtual Box and everything works ok but I rather run e-Sword with out a virtual box.

I've just started exhaustive stress testing of e-Sword 10.0.x on Linux.
(For various reasons, this time, I did most of my stress tests on a 32 bit WinXP box.)
I've come across half a dozen issues.
I expect to submit a report to Rick on the first of December, covering all of the points of difference between the Windows setup, and the Linux setup

I am trying to use 10.05 on Ubuntu 11.10. The basic setup seems to run fine (very little testing so far) but I can't get the module downloader to work. I click on the module I want and nothing at all happens. Any ideas? Is there an alternate source for modules? I have all the ones I wanted previously from the old download site but I wanted to add one.

I am a long-time e-Sword user but a newcomer to Linux. I installed wine and eS v10 on a machine running Lubuntu 11.10. So far, I've only encountered two problems, which both relate to Hebrew and Greek fonts. First, no matter which font I use, the vowel points are off-center in the WLC module. This is not a major issue but it's still annoying since this is one of my most used Bible modules. Second, the fonts will not appear in Hebrew or Greek at all in modules with Strong's numbers.

Any help will be most appreciated. Thank you!

I have been running mint 11 and ubuntu 11.10. I am running wine 1.2.3 stable on both systems. The following has worked for me with both systems.

Do this before installing E-sword:

Set oleaut32 to builtin in winecfg

In winetricks install

msls31
msxml3 *
vbrun6
vcrun6
wsh57

Once these are installed you can install E-sword and it should work.

* To install msxml3 winetricks will open an MS download site where you can get the file. Once downloaded put it in: home/user-name/.cache/winetricks/msxml3

To find the .cache type ctl-h while in your home dir to show the hidden files. You my have to reselect the files to have winetricks install them

I hope this is what's happening: you click on the module you want and it's then listed in the download cue below. The download won't start until you hit "download" on the top left menu - then click "start". This allows you to download multiple files at the same time.

Thanks but no, when I mouse over the module name the pointer changes and I may even get something that says to click it to add it to the queue, however when I do (single or double click) nothing gets placed there.

To date I have always just used the e-sword installer found in the Ubuntu forums and then after initial install used it to "manually add" resources that I downloaded in the past. I just now realized that this new downloader is even in the program and that the old download page is gone.

You need to install Windows Scripting Host dll files as Silverhair suggests. This is necessary for the "download butons" to work as these are coded via certain scripts.

I'm sorry that I was unable to help you. I'll keep my eyes open for answers.

This is where you start playing with the different versions of WINE.
I don't know which version to recommend, but the default version for Ubuntu is the wrong choice for umpteen reasons, starting with the fact that it breaks e-Sword. I'd suggest going back to one of the 1.o.x versions of WINE, and trying them out, one at a time.

OTOH, Greek and Hebrew font issues are as likely to be due to defects in the resource, as due to the effects of running e-Sword under WINE.
