A practical suggestion that could prevent others from experiencing the same installation problems I had: in the system requirements for e-Sword version 13 on Windows systems include having Windows Media Player installed and activated.

Thank you, Son seeker. Thank you for having shared with us the information which you obtained from Rick Meyers. I also sent a request to Rick Meyers that he also add an entry on his website. https://www.e-sword.net Rick Meyers has now added an entry on the FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS web page of the e-Sword web site, to explain that WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER needs to be preloaded, installed, and enabled, on the Microsoft Windows (64-bit) and (32-bit) PC for e-Sword version 13.0.0 to load. This is to play MP3 audio files.
Please refer to https://www.e-sword.net/faq.html for the answer to the question "I JUST INSTALLED E-SWORD 13 AND IT WILL NOT START!" which has been added by Rick Meyers. "e-Sword 13 requires that the Windows Media Player is both installed and enabled. Instructions for doing so are available here: Get Windows Media Player https://support.micr...e3-94596b658287

Thank you for sharing your experience, and the solution, which you discovered. Many will now probably begin to listen to the Bible read aloud, and to listen to many sermons based on exposition of the message associated with specific passages in chapters and verses in the Holy Bible.
Henry Wansbrough, who is an English monk, explains in the FOREWORD on page x, in the Revised New Jerusalem Bible: Study Edition, (2019), "The Bible was written to be proclaimed aloud rather than studied in silence, it is important, therefore, that the message of the Bible should be read out and heard intelligibly as well as understood in reflective meditation. Attention has also been given to rendering the language and imagery of the original languages accurately rather than by dynamic equivalence. Further, every attempt has been made to show that the meaning of the Bible is directed to women and men equally, despite the inbuilt bias of the English language."
Henry Wansbrough, Ampleforth Abbey, June 2019.

Sincere thanks. Olaf Bacon.
TO LOAD WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER. On the 64-bit Microsoft Operating system, for Windows 10, Windows Media Player needs to be in two different places: in This PC > Windows (C:) > \Program Files\Windows Media Player\ and files and subfolders; and also in This PC > Windows (C:) > \Program Files (x86)\Windows Media Player\ and files and subfolders.

Problem solved but I don't like having Windows features on that I will never use.

It would be nice if this requirement was stated clearly up front instead of having to search down a solution to a common problem.

My version 13 starts and runs but I cannot find any user-created modules for the version. Been looking and searching this site but feel so lost. Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I am a novice.

Most of the modules on this site should work with e-Sword 13, most modules are not version specific.

Also if you click download from the e-Sword menu, the program's built in downloader will open from which you can download all of the official modules for e-Sword.

e-Sword now has two audio components one is for Audio sermons which has existed since the release of e-Sword version 10 and the newest component is for audio bibles. Both of these components connect e-Sword to two different online services external of e-Sword. The audio sermons are made available from a website called Sermon Audio while the audio bibles are made available from a website called bible.is.

Both of these audio services provide there respective audio offerings in MP3 format which is why Windows media player is required

Hi

I had the same issue.  Uninstalled v13 and installed v10 and v10 worked.  Uninstall v10 and re-install v13 but no joy, same issue.

I finally had enough because had an issue with another app too.  Format my pc re-install and v13 works.

I know formatting is not the first option but this option does work.

Rick Meyers has added an entry in the Frequently Asked Questions option on https://www.e-sword.net/ to explain that WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER needs to be preloaded on the Microsoft Windows PC for Windows version 13.0.0 to load. This is to provide MP3 Audio for the Bible Pause/Play Audio option.

Had the same problem with version 13.0. did a rollback to 12.1 and works fine. tried everything from fresh install to sfc /scannow just to make it work. and nothing. saw this thread and followed the instruction in activating the WMplayer. installed the version 13.0 and it now works as well. yay!

For whatever it's worth, here is how I resolved the issue:

  1. Using the free Revo Uninstaller, I completely uninstalled e-Sword from my Windows 10 PC. Revo Uninstaller download:  https://www.revounin...-free-download/
  2. Using Revo, I carefully proceeded to remove every remaining traces of e-Sword that were left behind after the standard uninstall. Disclaimer: If you are not comfortable doing this, you may end up causing other issues, so proceed with caution. Revo is intuitive and straight forward enough for the average user, but it may be too aggressive for some.
  3. Make sure to restart the PC after having uninstalled the program.
  4. Do a completely clean re-install and it should work.
  5. You will need to re-install all of your proprietary modules, so make sure to have a backup folder to re-populate your catalog.
