Hi there, I recently installed e-sword on a new computer. Followed your instructions on the FAQ page to copy my notes, topics etc to MyDocuments\e-sword and made sure (under Resource Options) that this is where the program is looking for user files.

 

My list files lstx show up fine, but I still can't view my topx and notx files for some reason - when I click on the binoculars icon in those tabs, there is nothing displayed to select from.

 

I checked the Reference Library as per suggestion from the user manual and they are not displaying there either.

 

What else do I need to do to access these files?

USER FILES LOCATION - The e-Sword User's Guide is slightly out of date.
The USER FILES LOCATION is displayed in e-Sword, select option "Options"; "Resource Settings"; select any of the Resource Options for either Bibles; Commentaries; Dictionaries; Devotions; Graphics; or Reference Books. Look in the "User Files Location" window. On Microsoft Windows 10 PCs we can access this folder at: This PC > Windows (C:) > Users > user > Documents > e-Sword
When you use the Browse option, browse to: This PC\Windows (C:)\Users\user\Documents\e-Sword
In the e-Sword screen this folder is displayed in all lowercase characters as c:\users\user\documents\e-sword The “user” name is how you have been identified to This PC, and may need to be updated.

HINT: e-SWORD USER'S GUIDE. Use "F1" keyboard function key, to access the e-Sword User's Guide, in PDF format, read page 1, page 2, and pages 41-44.

To change e-Sword so that it will access another disk-drive, or username, or path to the ...\e-Sword folder follow the instructions on page 41. Then exit e-Sword, and reload e-Sword, which will then access the files in the directory-folder with the changed disk-drive and path and e-Sword folder details.

On a new PC running the Microsoft Operating System 10, the default USER FILES LOCATION can be browsed to This PC > Windows (C:) > Users > user > Documents > e-Sword\ directory-folder. The "user" may need to be changed to the specific login username used by the computer to identify you as the user.

Important: When e-Sword is loaded from "https://e-sword.net" [url off site] there are certain files which are loaded in the folder listed as default in the RESOURCE LOCATION and USER FILES LOCATION. You will probably need these in your folders as well.
Suggestion: move your files to the correct default folder, in the C:\Users\user\Documents\e-Sword\ folder.
Suggestion: Bypass the Microsoft desktop and Quick links, when you save files on your PC. Do not save files onto the desktop. Those multiple "Documents" folders are a nuisance on the Microsoft PC. Personally, I always browse to my files from This PC then Windows (C:) drive, then look for "Users", then the "user" the PC knows me as, then Documents then make suitable folders for my use.
Suggestion: Do the same when you create your own files, otherwise file folders will become a spaghetti tangle which takes time to sort out.
HOW TO READ FILES: If the .topx files are in RESOURCE LOCATION folder, read them through the Reference Library window. If you want to edit them, make a copy of the file, into the USER FILES LOCATION and you should see them with either the STUDY NOTES or the TOPIC NOTES editor options.

Are you sure your files can be listed, in the correct folders? Suggestion: Please see correspondence with another user, Lillian, who was blocked by her security application, from being able to download files. If you have a third party security option, loaded on your PC, I highly suggest, that, after the second Tuesday of the month, disable them, and allow Microsoft to upgrade your PC. There is an extensive 20H2 update, applicable between October 2020 and March 2021. You may have to "baby" the PC, and re-test for Updates, sequentially at least three times, AFTER all downloads have installed.  See the correspondence in: http://www.biblesupp...in-e-sword-122/ for some ideas.
