Depending on what type of results your looking for most scanners can scan documents such as books into either Adobe PDF format or Word documents.
However e-Sword is not compatible with either of those formats, so your scans will have to be made into e-Sword modules for use with e-Sword

Just a bit of a note on that...
If memory serves me correctly, I think Josh Bond posted something of what one is required to to when it comes to scanning books into resources, such as how to remove the binding and etc to prepare it for scanning. I know that ultimately to do such to a book ends in the destruction of the book as all the pages have to be separated.
Also I think of remembering something of where he had to destroy one of the rarest books to scan it for an e-Sword resource, and I think that he paid thousands of dollars for that book as well. Another thing too, was when (as a result of donations been given) he bought the College Press Study series; all of them were "destroyed" for scanning and created as an e-Sword Commentary resource.
Blessings,
Stephen (Php 1:21).
