Hi, Guys (and Ladies),

Here is a web page about OMLB - http://www.doctordavet.com/omlb.html

Here's the short version: we're all Independent Contractors that basically share our work with each other for the purpose of "proofscanning." We did work together extensively on "Biblical Expositor" modules, but again, one individual built an individual book module, and then it was shared for proofscanning.

I'm very much in favor of team work. Like John Maxwell says, "Teamwork makes the Dream Work." But one most also remember the adage of D.L. Moody, who said something like this: "It is better to get ten men to do the work, than to do the work of ten men. But it is harder." Think through that once or twice, and apply it to building a huge module, and it will probably give you a headache....

Josh and others (too many to mention by bame),
I think Dr Dave's method is perhaps the best way to go. I think the work the he with his team have produced is by far some of the best e-Sword resources I have seen in regard to it useability.

The way Dave does things is the way that major software is produced. Products such as MS Office,Windows, Corel Offic and Mozilla FireFox (and anything else anyone wants to throw in) are never and has never been a one man band operation; its always been a collaborative work involving lots of programmers, testers, designers, and etc (Mozzila Firefox, in its Credits, has a list of well over 4,000 names of those who have contributed in one form or another to the project).

I think when it comes to large projects such as this, actually requires a committed and dedicated team to put out work like this, and although there are a lot of e-Sword Resource creators, editors and etc, I don't think we a collaborative team to work on projects of this size and nature, and maybe a team of volunteers should be formed so that it no longer is a one man band kind of thing to produce the modules.

Blessings,
Stephen (Php 1:21).

Look josh I think everyone missed the boat with their comments. You didnt ask who should do the work. You didnt ask for a team to do the work. You didn't ask how to excite or convince people to read Langes material. You did ask if Lange's could be understood by the average guy. And then you asked if your formatting was readible compared to the website version.

No one wants to admit they read something and had trouble understanding it. I think the answer to your first question is 'no'. The answer to your 2nd question: The formatting you did is 1,000% better than the website. I believe it is usable the way you did it. I dont see any problem there??

But can we back up to question 1? What if 95% of esword users couldn't profit from it? Would it be worth it to benefit the 5% who are scholarly enough? But I say even if only 5% benefit, its worth it! The reader must dig in the printed book version so it follows the reader may dig in the electronic version on the long comments. But remember the electronic version will have a search, ctrl f, in e-Sword to quickly find words. I vote yes!

Others have a made a similar argument and I agree with it. Therefore, we're moving forward. I'm finishing up the Handfuls On Purpose 12 volume set. After that, I'll perfect the code that cleans and formats the text. Then I'll run the code on each section of text and package the text in 6-9 megabyte files for tooltipping and any division tweaking in T3.

I've had a couple of volunteers willing to help tooltip the material (or offer to do whatever they can do). Then we can combine all the separately compiled cmtx files into one large cmtx (thanks to ToolTip). I believe this project will go as fast as the Biblical Illustrator did (relatively fast). The total commentary size in html format is 135 megs. Since RTF is more verbose than html, I'd guess Langes commentary size will be 150-160 megs.

(And might I add, this is another project, in a long list of already completed projects that would never have happened without Tooltip3.)

HI I just tried to make the NT into a cmt but it failed. I can try to put it into a topic format.

Sorry but I will not be able to do this, but I uploaded the work I have done. Here it is:http://www.biblesupp...s-cmt-of-ot-nt/

thanks

Hello, I'm very interested in this project.

It seems that currently there are no html-version of the text available online anywhere, but the resource you provided seems to be very well formatted! I'd like to host it on my site (uskojaelama.net in Finnish). Can I do this? Or is there any place these files could be uploaded to be available for the public?

I previously put this project on hold because of uncertainty of how to deal with Lange's footnotes. The commentary has extensive footnoting already setup with html hyperlinks. e-Sword currently does not support internal document hyperlinking. I didn't want to delete the hyperlinks because once they're gone, they're gone forever. I didn't want to include hyperlinks that didn't work. I also have other goals for this module text on other platforms that need the hyperlinks. It was just...messy.

e-Sword 10.1 will not only support images in commentaries (and dictionaries and devotionals), but 10.1 will also support RTF hyperlinks, like Topics/Reference Library currently do. (Hyperlinks on the same screen, as with Topics, not cross-topic or cross-comment hyperlinks). Thus, I feel comfortable pursuing Langes again, so I'm working on it a little each day. Previously, I'd written Word macros and Python code to apply easier to read formatting to Langes, properly (consistently) number the matching hyperlinked footnotes, and generally make the text look good in e-Sword. So what I consider to be the complicated part is done. Now it's just a matter of applying this chapter by chapter and reality scanning the text. We'll get there when we get there. :) But 10.1 has resurrected this project.

Question: are you on an Interstate, traveling at 70 mph? Or are you on an open country road at 55 mph? Are you moving about a small town at 30 mph? Or are you stuck in traffic?

Haha, these big resources like Biblical Illustrator and Langes are a "journey". Ya can't get there in a day or week. I was stuck in traffic. Now I'm moving down the Langes highway at 55mph. :)
