Technology, Databases, e-Sword

Quite sometime ago (6th April, 2012) I created a post titled, "e-Sword and Databases," which gave a basic view of how e-Sword works by using database files for its resources. Its as a result of that I felt it would be good to create them as an resource so that it can be referenced to.

Part One gives a brief outline of what a database is and is comprised of, and how e-Sword interacts with it in order to read it so that it display the data.

Part Two goes into a bit more of a technological part of e-Sword's handling of data, of the way it is able to read foreign languages, and languages that are non Roman, such as Greek, Hebrew, Chinese and etc., characters.

From the comments I've read regarding Part 1, it seems the Posts have been quite helpful to some e-Sword users. And its with that intention, that this documentation, which can be kept, will prove useful to you.

This document is copyright, but you may download and keep as many copies you wish, and you may freely give away as many copies as you wish. The copyright is only there to protect the integrity of the file.

Just one comment on a very nice pair of documents. Well, it is more a correction. MySQL server and SQL Server are indeed very capable relational DBMS programs and you can Count in Oracle as well. They are certainly not flat-file databases. You asked to be corrected on this and now you are corrected with love. God bless you!!!

Hey, thanks for that. I actually wasn't too certain as to whether or not MySQL and SQL Server was Flat or relational. So really appreciate your input on this.

I'm glad you like the documentation... I tried to bring about a knowledge base in where users can have a basic understanding of how e-Sword interacts with Database files.

Generally, Databases and I don't get along very well. The same goes with Spreadsheets. For some reason I just can't get the hang of how to work them. I understand the principles of Databases, but when it comes to putting one together, I have massive problems with them. I just guess that me and Databases, we weren't meant for each other.

Anyway, thanks again for your comment. Really  appreciate it.

Blessings,
