AKA - Genealogy of Man

REVIEW:

This module has a tab name of "Timeline" (which should not be confused with Rick's official "Timelines" module). It has just one "chapter" (graphic), purporting to be the "Genealogy of Man" and subtitled "As recorded in the King James Bible."

There is no copyright information, nor any information about the author, other than her name (Belinda Worth). I mention this because the publication date is not included.

The material places the creation of the world at "AC 0" (for "After Creation 0" - an interesting way to discuss Biblical dating). The module then works forward. (Example: Seth is born in AC 130). I have no issue with Worth's "AC" dating system. However, when she superimposes modern dating on top of it, her dating system is clearly off.

The Date of David's reign has been uniformly accepted by both conservative and liberal scholarship as c.1010-970 BC; and Solomon's reign as c.970-930 (I use the "c." symbol because the dates do differ from work to work, but only by a year). However, Mrs. Worth places the date of David's reign as 922-882 BC, and Solomon's reign as 882-843 BC.

Due to the clear statement of 1Ki 6:1, and given the dating statements of the reigns of David & Solomon from the previous paragraph, the Exodus must have taken place in 1446. To her credit, Mrs. Worth does place the Exodus 480 years earlier than the 4th year of Solomon's reign within her system, but the date is off. She places the Exodus in 1358 BC.

Now, here's the problem with that: when comparing Worth's date to good conservative material, the uninformed user may come to the conclusion that the good resource is wrong, and therefore off in other areas, when in fact, Mrs. Worth's timeline is wrong.

I'd also like to point out that in her timeline, she has completely dismissed Israel's first king - Saul. He does not appear, even though the KJV clearly identifies him as Israel's first King. This is either an oversight, or a choice to dismiss him. It would appear that it was the latter.

A good timeline should accurately reflect 1) right dates; and 2) the right order of events/people. Unfortunately, Mrs. Worth's timeline does neither.

Those interested in Biblical chronology would be much better served to download and use the official eSword module called "Timelines," which can be downloaded and used from within eSword.
