Meditations, Daily Devotional

A 366 day daily devotional first published in the early 1700's. The master for this copy was printed in 1831. The full title of this book is: "A golden treasury for the children of God : whose treasure is in Heaven, consisting of select texts of the Bible with practical observations in prose and verse for every day in the year "

About the Author:
Carl Heinrich von Bogatzky (7 September 1690-15 June 1774) was one of the most popular and influential devotional writers of the Lutheran Church in Germany, a leader in the Pietist movement. Unable to undertake a pastorate because of poor health, he spent his long life in a private pastoral ministry to many noble families, and also in institutions, first largely in his native Silesia, then after 1746 in Halle, where he ministered widely to students and young people. Bogatzky's chief contribution was made, however, through his devotional writings, which, though not intellectually on a high plane, nevertheless had great influence because of their warm piety, deep sincerity, and simplicity of expression. Along with devotional writings he also wrote poetry and hymns.

Personal Observations:
The average daily devotion starts with several scripture references, followed next with the a short 1-3 paragraph devotion. This is then usually followed by 4-12 lines of poetry or a hymn. In most cases this seems to work out very well. Mr Bogatzky lived in a different era than ours, but Christ remains the same! I found his writings sometime difficult to read, but a thorough blessing as I thought upon them.
