This commentary was first published in 1945, the last known edition
about 1961.
Robertson Lafayette Whiteside was born on December 27, 1869 in
Hickman County, Tennessee on Swan Creek. He was the son of
Luther and Mylisse Frances Aydelotte Whiteside and was one of
eleven children. Luther Whiteside was born abt. 1825 and died in
January of 1888. Frances was born August 15, 1837 and died
February 28, 1881. She was Luther Whiteside's 2nd wife. Luther's
first wife was Aldazena Weatherly who was born about 1838 and
died in 1854. Luther Whiteside and both wives are believed to be
buried at Campground Cemetery in Hickman County, TN., in
unmarked graves.
Robertson L. Whiteside married Miss Ruth Weatherly, daughter of
James and Rebecca Weatherly, on February 9, 1893 in Lewis
County, TN. Ten children were born to this union. Soon after the
marriage, the family moved to Dallas County, Texas where other
relatives had moved to continue his preaching. Robertson was a
well-known and respected preacher throughout Texas, New Mexico,
Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, Kentucky and several other states.
The family returned to Tennessee in 1895, living in Nashville while
he received additional education. A year later they returned to Texas.
Robertson was also a writer and co-author of many Christian articles
and books.
Robertson died at his home in Denton, Texas on January 5, 1951
and is buried at the I. O. O. F. (International Order of Odd Fellows)
Cemetery in Denton, Texas. His wife, Ruth, is buried next to him.
She passed away in 1964.
