Is there a commentary what gives a summary of each chapter of the Bible? With the characters, places and key verses?

In the e-Sword window top line of options right click on Commentary  (File  Bible  Commentary ) in the drop down menu you will see Show Book Commentary, Show Chapter Commentary, and Show Verse Commentary.

Many commentaries have Chapter Commentaries, some of the newer modules display every commentary for the chapter if they do not have a Chapter Commentary per se.(technically that isn't a chapter commentary), and some commentaries (for some reason) that do show all commentary for a chapter, do not indicate that they are showing anything.

Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, (Jeremiah 9:23-24a)

"Defenders of the faith are inclined to be bitter until they learn to walk in the light of the Lord. When you have learned to walk in the light of the Lord, bitterness and contention are impossible." --Oswald Chambers, in Biblical Psychology from The Quotable Oswald Chambers.
