HI all,

How many people use the Parallel and Compare options in the Bible section.  The Parallel uses 8 bibles at once which the most I know of from bible software. I use it to compare the modern translations to the King James bible.

I am just amazed at the differences of these modern translations compared to the King James bible.

example:

1 Kings 10:28
(KJV)  And Solomon had horses brought out of Egypt, and linen yarn: the king's merchants received the linen yarn at a price.
(84NIV)  Solomon's horses were imported from Egypt and from Kue --the royal merchants purchased them from Kue
(NKJV)  Also Solomon had horses imported from Egypt and Keveh; the king's merchants bought them in Keveh at the current price.
(NLT)  Solomon's horses were imported from Egypt and from Cilicia; the king's traders acquired them from Cilicia at the standard price.

what is Keveh?  Linen yarn is to make fabric.

I am not trying to deep just skimming the usage of words (a layman understanding).

I am using e-Sword parallel and compare verse by verse. I like it because it does 8 versions.

here is another one:

Lamentations 5:3
(KJV)  We are orphans and fatherless, our mothers are as widows.
(NKJV)  We have become orphans and waifs, Our mothers are like widows.

What is waifs - A waif is a living creature removed, by hardship, loss or other helpless circumstance, from its original surroundings.

A living creature sounds like an animal not a living being which sounds like a man (or female)

What word is easier to understand and read? Fatherless or walifs?

If someone want to speak on theology, go to the link below for this is about Parallel and Compare options in the bible section of e-Sword.

I use the Parallel to get an eclectic panorama of points of view. The eight translations I use are: The Amplified Bible, The Complete Apostles Bible (Brenton Septuagint for OT and EMT English Majority Text for the NT), ESV, NASB, NKJV, NLT, The Disciples Bible ( Hebrew Masoretic Text for OT and Greek Textus Receptus (Scrivener 1894) for the NT.) and the Complete Jewish Bible

I use the compare as a sort of concordance how many of the 30+ translations a word or phrase using what word.

Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, (Jeremiah 9:23-24a)

"Defenders of the faith are inclined to be bitter until they learn to walk in the light of the Lord. When you have learned to walk in the light of the Lord, bitterness and contention are impossible." --Oswald Chambers, in Biblical Psychology from The Quotable Oswald Chambers.

Waif

http://www.onelook.c...om/?w=waif&ls=a

noun:  a homeless child especially one forsaken or orphaned

I should not use this word especially because of the word the Hebrew word Ab that means father; so the best translations are fatherless or those without father

hi

check this out

Zechariah 13:6

(Alexandria) And I will say to him, What are these wounds between thine hands? and he shall say, Those with which I was wounded in my beloved house.
(CEV)  And if any of them are asked why they are wounded, they will answer, "It happened at the house of some friends."
(ESV-r)  And if one asks him, 'What are these wounds on your back?' he will say, 'The wounds I received in the house of my friends.'
(HCSB+)  If someone asks him: What are these wounds (E) on your chest? [c] —then he will answer: The wounds I received in the house of my friends.
(KJV)  And one shall say unto him, What are these wounds in thine hands? Then he shall answer, Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.
(LB)  "And if someone asks, 'Then what are these scars on your chest and your back?' he will say, 'I got into a brawl at the home of a friend'!
(NASB)  "And one will say to him, 'What are these wounds between your arms?' Then he will say, 'Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.'
(84NIV)  If someone asks him, 'What are these wounds on your body?' he will answer, 'The wounds I was given at the house of my friends.'
(NKJr)  "And one will say to him, 'What are these wounds between your arms?' Then he will answer, 'Those with which I was wounded in the house of my friends.'
(NLT)  And if someone asks, 'Then what about those wounds on your chest? ' he will say, 'I was wounded at my friends' house!'

All I can say is WOW!

Very helpful notes. But I have a technical question: I selected "all" the Bibles I have downloaded, to have a full comparison of them. But I get only 14 texts compared, while the other translations, which I think very important to me in my study, not listed in the "compare" list.

Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.

You need to make the check boxes next to each bible name are checked in order them all to appear when comparing

Thank you for the advice. But if you notice that I mentioned that ALL the Bibles are selected and checked. Inspite of this they do not appear in the comparison.

So you have the first 14 Bibles displaying; what is the 15th one called?

If you deselect this from the compare options dialog, does that allow the remaining Bibles to display?

If this does not produce some results, then I have another idea.

Dear Jon, Thank you for the reply. But the 14 Bibles displayed are not the first in order. This means that I do not know which is the 15th. Moreover, the order of the 14 Bibles displayed are not the same order in the "options - compare" menu.

But wait! I made another try, I deselected two or three Bibles, and the result was wonderful! More Bibles are coming, about two-thirds of the total number of the Bibles. If it is the final result, it would be enough for me. Thank you again.

Raouf
