It would be nice to be able to Right-Click on a REFX or TOPX book in "Reference Library" and it would give you an owner inputed message.

I would like to be able to know, by Right-Clicking, what the author's church affiliation is.

Hi Ron,

Why does that matter?

I would also like to know why that matters. That information is not available for the vast majority of the resources, so a ton of work would be involved in just getting it - much less adding the functionality of a right click to get it. In other words, it would be a major pain to even try it and it would take years. Maybe you could volunteer to try and get some of the information so that you can see what's involved.

Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

It is nice to know where an author is coming from position wise.  I often go to the information on the commentaries to see if I can tell before reading the commentary.  Actually, I often research the author before downloading so that I know what I am getting.

Correct it would take some additional work but I agree it would be handy.

I'm not sure what Ron meant by "author's church affiliation" but suspect he meant general position rather than specific local church membership - sorry if I'm wrong Ron - position/theological view is often found in the forward or on the dust jacked on newer stuff, and the internet usually offers the information if not.

It is a handy thing to know (if you deal with many people of varied theological backgrounds) just what they believe in certain areas, as  an example,  a person's eschatology colors their views even scriptures that are not directly related to the end times or the nature of the Kingdom of God.

I am neither a preterist nor do I follow Reformed Theology, but I still enjoy studying R. C. Sproul (who is at least a partial preterist, and definitely a Reformed Theologen) and Hank Hanegraaff.

Learning about the positions that orthodox theologians with differing points of view helps to understand why they see things differently, as well as easing the tendency (when talking to them) to build and destroy  "Straw men", and allow dialogue that is meaningful.

That being said the only way to get the sort of information Ron (and most of the rest of us) would like to see, is to not allow distribution on this site of any Bible, Commentary, Dictionary, Topic file or Reference module that did not have it.

Since the modules found here are user built many of the modules (especially the older  ones, or the ones done by a certain robot) don't contain that information, and it would require a massive effort to enforce such a rule on the module makers, or even to introduce it in existent modules.

I am sure that if you wished to do so, someone here could show you how to do the retrofit.

Thus says the LORD, "Let not a wise man boast of his wisdom, and let not the mighty man boast of his might, let not a rich man boast of his riches; but let him who boasts boast of this, that he understands and knows Me, (Jeremiah 9:23-24a)

"Defenders of the faith are inclined to be bitter until they learn to walk in the light of the Lord. When you have learned to walk in the light of the Lord, bitterness and contention are impossible." --Oswald Chambers, in Biblical Psychology from The Quotable Oswald Chambers.

It may well be a massive effort to Retrofit existing Modules as Tim wrote.....and I fully agree ! However....properly "Tagging" the

Modules on the "Download Page" can be done with "some" effort. Theological content is of vital importance to many or most

folks that download our Modules. As an example: In our "New E-sword Modules" column.....we currently have 3 Modules with authors from a SDA tradition. If they were properly tagged....some would opt away from downloading them.....and yet others

from that tradition may never download those Modules because they aren't aware those Modules match up with their Theological

acceptance.

We may not be able to do easily what Ron originally requested.....but we can approach a remedy on the Download Page.

Thank you for all your comments.  Again, Thank you

Let's say you have E-Sword up and running.  You click on "Tools" then "Reference Library".  Say you have lots and lots of installed books.

Let's say you want to read Absolute Surrender by Andrew Murray.  Wow!! This author knows his stuff.  I wonder what theological position Andrew is.

It would be nice to Right-Click on the top bar, which shows what book you are reading, and a small box pops up and reads "Dutch Reform".

Yes, the Utility program would require that "Dutch Reform" would have to be entered by the person is reading Murray's book.

Yes, this would take some time for the person who is setting behind his computer screen.  But it can be done.

This may be more a suggestion for Rick Meyers.

Again, Thank you for your comments.

In Topx or Refx simply create a topic About Author or even more specific theological position

May God change our hearts to what the truth is

2Ti_2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Rom_9:16 So then it is not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God that sheweth mercy.

2Ti 2:24-25  And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;

Hi Ron,

Just to further expand on Dsaw's comment, e-Sword's Editors do not have about dialogs such as the Bible, Dictionary, and Commentary modules do have. With Study and Journal Note editors it would be somewhat difficult to add in Author information. But with the Topic Note Editor it is simply rectified by, as DSaw put it, "simply create a topic About Author or even more specific theological position."

One really well known member of this group, Dr Dave Thomason (affectionately known as DDT) has information like this in the resources he (and his team) creates.

I also agree with what dartmaster644 said,

We may not be able to do easily what Ron originally requested.....but we can approach a remedy on the Download Page.

Also if one is really wanting that kind of information despite there being no "Author Information" in a particular resource, I think all it takes is to Google the name, and/or the title of the work, and one should/would get all the information about the person that is needed.

For where there is little or no information in Bible, Dictionary, and Commentary modules, this can be readily rectified by using T4 or SQLite Database Manager. Things I have done in some of the resources I have downloaded.

Blessings,

Since I voiced my negatives I should also give the other side :-)

I would like to thank the module makers that DO put author info on the download page :-) very helpful/appreciated!
