This is the latest version of a website that comes and goes every few months. The last iteration was "bible-library.org" which is now dead.

Some of the content there originally came from here, so we have don't have a use for it. But it looks like there's some new content there we can make modules from. If it's public domain, we can use it.

There's still some copyrighted works there that we can't use,  like Lenski's Commentary.

asked this very question about some of the material being in "copyright". The response is that dmca only applies to the USA, and what they are providing on their website, is for distant learning/education purposes. It appears that many of the works whether in or out of copyright are somehow protected, as I tried to download or copy paste, or even print screen, but had no success!!! I suppose with the likes of Youtube and Google having an abundance of "copyrighted" stuff, surely good, wholesome material for a deeper study in the Word of God should be allowed, at least just for reference.

I'm pretty sure commercial publications like Lenski's Commentary is why previous versions of that website went down, usually within a few days or weeks of being launched. DCMA is US only. But the US has treaties with most countries allowing copyright enforcement virtually worldwide.

I do see the "copy protection". It's easily defeated. And it makes no difference under US law about protecting the document or if its purpose is for distant learning. The US simply says distribution (like through an internet browser) of copyrighted material is illegal.

I hope you guys fair better this time (you do have a lot of legitimate, public domain works). But I have a feeling until you stop distributing copyrighted works, the US law will continue to catch up with you. :)

Here is a really WAY Cool bible site. The folks here have taken Google Earth and mapped out every place mentioned in the Bible (That is every place where its location is actually known).

They also have an Atlas that lists the locations alphabeticlly.

The maps that are displayed are Google Earth ones (Read that to mean satelite views). The whole thing i actually pretty cool.

Here is the link to their site Link.

And here is a sample screen capture of when you ask the site to print a map.

Attached File  Map Image.png   338.99K   13 downloads

And this is the satellite view.

Attached File  Sattelite Image.png   584.6K   13 downloads

The pinned locations can be clicked on and get the locations name, they can also be turned on & off.

I think that this shows some real promise.

(P.S. If the photo thing is too big/too much, let me know please and I'll make sure to tone it down next time :)

Hi Josh, I agree and disagree with what you say. I agree that there should be some "protection" for works published, but that this should be done for the purpose of protecting the works (like ensuring its contents are not changed in any way), and not for greed, where publishers (including "Christian") are greedy in making a fast buck, where the price of books are unreal, and they want to extend copyright times (beyond 70 years), so that they can keep cashing in! I mean, who gives the NIV translation any "right", to say that you can quote/copy up to 500 verses, and anything thereafter we need their permission? The Holy Bible is, and always will be THE WORD OF GOD, and there should be no restraints on this. You mention US "law". This itself is a joke! The US thinks that somehow they, and no one else have some "right" to make their "laws" enforceable around the world, and yet do nothing to the likes of Youtube, a US company, which is worth billions, who are probably the biggest copyright infringers in the world! Why not start by ordering that ALL movies and other illegal videos are removed from their site, or else shut down their business? Google are no better. Their is no point in the US "taking the moral high ground", as they are doing with Snowden, when they are themselves turning a blind eye to criminal activities by their own companies, and where the government itself is involved in immoral, criminal activities. This may cause some of you in the US to huff, but who really cares, as the world by and large ignores what it says!

What you agree or disagree with really doesn't matter. What matters is the copyright holder's legal rights to protect their intellectual or artistic property. You gave the NIV as an example, and they have every legal right to make whatever restraints they want to. If you don't like it, don't use the NIV. The same applies to any other work.

Most Christians try to obey the law. We're not responsible for what companies do that are outside of our control. We're just responsible for what we do. In other words, I'm not responsible for what YouTube and Google do or don't do.

Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)
6 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. 7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Journey, what do you mean "obey the law"? what , and whose "law" do you refer to? The "law" in many states in the USA says that we all came from apes, where they disregard the Biblical teaching of Creation by Almighty God! Again, the "law" says that a relationship between two people of the same sex is normal and acceptable, and attack the Bible's teaching of a man and a woman as the only God-given normal way. I for one don't use the NIV as it is not really a translation. But my point is that, regardless of what you and others might say, it is supposed to be the Word of God, and therefore freely available for all. It is these godless, man-made "laws" that are a major hindrance to the work of the Holy Spirit, and the increase of the "cults" and other false religions around the world, because the greed of Christians and Christian companies is a cancer in the body of Christ! "Christianity" in the US and here in Old England is at its lowest, and I agree with John MacArthur on this one thing, that the USA has been largely abandoned by God, as even the "church" itself is corrupt, and by and large preaches "another gospel".
