Hi, Everyone,

Trench's Synonyms has existed as a "pump and dump module" for several years on the internet. While we're all grateful for the anonymous builder(s) who have worked on the Trench dictionary, anyone who has used it knows it has needed updating for some time. Well, no more!

Spurred on by the work "blcjr" is doing to the ICCNT for theWord Bible software, I updated Trench's Synonyms of the New Testament and have provided a link to the updated module. The link is available here on the download page at Biblesupport.

Version 1.1 is now 1) tooltipped; 2) completely reformatted; 3) edited and corrected for numerous errors; and 4) generally beautified. Users will want to delete older versions and update to this one for sure!

Merry Christmas Biblesupporters!

(Another module made available via Brent's "T4" - and again, Happy Birthday T4!)

What does editing and correcting imply, please?  Have you ever known collections to be altered due to the editors 'different' belief on a Bible teaching?

Paw,

"Editing and correcting" imply that there were booboos in the previous module. By "editing and correcting" them, I have edited and corrected them by comparing them to a Google Books .pdf file. Many extraneous marks ("<>") have been edited out. Strong's colors have been changed from black to green, signifying that they are "mouseoverable." Incorrect scripture references have also been edited (corrected). The module has been tooltipped. Paragraph spacing has been increased to better legibility.

Not sure what the second question you ask has to do with this topic - unless you're implying I've made edits to the theological content of this material in order to actually change the author's intentions in the module. I have not. All edits are simply corrections. Because I am not the originator of this module, I would have to guess that the errors in the original module were due to 1) OCR scanning, or 2) poor typing, or 3) original printer errors corrected in later editions.

If you're at all concerned about these edits, I would recommend you keep using the previous module.

Thanks Dave, the module looks a LOT better. I especially like the formatting and tooltipping. Good job; Well Done!

As for 'BigPaws' questions; I think they're legitamite. From some online sites I have consistantly encountered texts where the sites owners make a claim that their text came from such & such an author. When I double check the sites text with the Google book or Internet Archive book, the site owner has dramatically changed the text.

LarryG,

You are correct in saying that there is some legitimate concerns due to the experiences you have mentioned.  That said, you and I both know DoctorDaveT.  His reputation is impeccable.  He has always been up front with his theological beliefs and I believe that he would stroke out he would ever consider changing anything that the original author wrote.

I loved this line:

If you're at all concerned about these edits, I would recommend you keep using the previous module.

So much so that I gave you a rep point.  You are far more diplomatic than I would be under similar circumstances.  I learned from your "turn the other cheek" moment.  I thank you for that experience.

Oh yeah, and thank you also for this module.

Christopher,

Yes, the TW version has also been updated. It is not available here at Biblesupport; it is available at my module website (see web address in signature). Go to my "Dictionaries" page to find the TW Trench download.

(Note to Josh:

The TW version of Trench... is undergoing more extensive work by "blcjr" in prepration for his continuing work on the ICCNT. When finished, I will update the Trench module at WM. If I can "rescue" any of his TW improvements for continuing upgrades to this eSword module, I will upgrade this one to 2.0 as well.

I only mention all of this because of Christopher's question and my response to him.)

Never run into that. If I saw that happen, and it was intentional (and not a misunderstanding), I would dis-invite them from the website.

Most who go to the trouble of modifying a resource, want their name in the by-line. That's probably why I've never seen someone take F.B. Meyer's resources, change what Meyer said, and then upload it. :)

The closest issue I can think of matching your question is Jehovah's Witnesses and similar material. We have had issues where similar groups upload material that seems Evangelical at first, or is vaguely described. And as you get into the material (many times a  Bible translation), you realize their goal is to deny the deity of Christ. I find it intellectually dishonest to describe material in a way that obscures the actual content.
